We are just nuts about using coconuts in our healthy eating recipes here at Lose Baby Weight.
You’ll find it in everything from our sweet desserts, to soups, curries, stir fries and even in smoothies. Why do we love it as a way of helping to lose pregnancy weight?
- It is naturally sweet so it adds a sweet flavour to your food – for instance if you drizzled your sweet potato with coconut oil before baking it in the oven it would add a sweet kick.
- Coconut can help to speed up your metabolism as the good fats in it are easily absorbed by the body and converted into energy.
- When you start using coconut in your food you might even find that it keeps you fuller for longer, meaning you are less likely to overindulge on your food each day.
- It also helps to curb your craving for sweet things which is a great way to naturally keep your calorie intake in check.
Always keep in mind that even though coconut is full of healthy fats and is considered to be a superfood, it is still very high in calories. Enjoy it in moderation as part of your healthy eating plan.
Desiccated coconut
A great option to use instead of breadcrumbs in a savoury dish such as this Parmesan, Coconut and Thyme Crispy Chicken; or in a sweet treat like these 4 Ingredient Apricot and Almond Balls from our 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.

Coconut oil
Coconut oil is great to cook with as it has a high smoke point, meaning it stays stable even when used at a high heat (such as grilling chicken).
It adds some sweetness to your food without the need to add sugar or sweetener.
Try our ever-popular Lemon and Coconut Bliss Balls or this Raspberry Coconut Slice.
Coconut flour
Made from ground up dried coconut, this is a great option for baking gluten free treats.
We like this Healthy “No-Bake” Lime & Coconut Tart; or the decadent but Guilt Free Chocolate Brownie.
Coconut milk
This is a great alternative to using cream or sour cream, as it is full of good fats and has a naturally sweet flavour.
Try using it in savoury dishes such as this Thai Chicken and Coconut Soup; or these Steamed Coconut Buns.
Coconut cream
When kept in the fridge overnight the cream sticks to the top and becomes a firm mousse-like cream. You can use it as you would double cream, or as a great addition to a healthy dessert such as these:
Coconut water
This is a great way to make a dairy free dessert like this Watermelon, Lime & Coconut Granita; or a Healthy Mummy Smoothie like this Zesty Berry Coconut Smoothie.
You can buy coconut water from most supermarkets and health food stores.
