Everyone who is trying to lose pregnancy weight wants to know the secret. The one thing that will help them to shift their post baby weight.
You might have even spent some time searching online or buying products that promise the key to the secret universe of weight loss.
Well today we are here to give you our secret tip. For free!
It’s this – GET ORGANISED.
Sounds pretty simple but it is the one thing that we have found to be a common theme of all of our mums who have lost pregnancy weight.
You may have heard the saying ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail’ – this is so true when it comes to weight loss.
You may have the very best of intentions to eat healthy food and exercise more.
But then hunger strikes, there are no healthy snacks prepared and you find yourself eating whatever you can grab. That could be a sausage roll or a sweet pastry from the local café.
As one of our Motivating Mum Claire Redshaw put it – ‘There’s NO SECRET to any of our weight loss journeys. There’s no magic pills, just the little bit of time and effort YOU put into YOU by YOU.’
So here are some of our top tips for how you can get organised and get on the fast track to healthy weight loss.
Meal plan all meals and snacks
If you really like the idea of being super organised, you can go so far as to meal plan everything that you eat for the week.
In fact – this is what our 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge does for you (find out more here – and it will be running monthly as of April 2015).
This also means you can make one big shopping list and get everything you need in one hit.
Less trips to the supermarket mean money saved (and less temptation to buy unhealthy options that always seem to be on sale). Read more on how to be a savvy supermarket shopper here.
Make your tasty snacks for the week
While it’s all well and good to just stock up the fruit bowl, it’s a great idea to make some healthy snacks for your morning and afternoon tea.
This way you won’t feel as though you are missing out when you visit a café (and don’t order a muffin); make a coffee at work (and don’t reach for the biscuit tin); or take a picnic to the park (and don’t buy a creamy cake to share with the kids).
By packing your morning and afternoon tea in your bag when you know you’ll be out there will be no excuses not to eat well.
Some of our favourite pre-made snacks include:
- Homemade trail mix of air popped popcorn, nuts, seeds and dried apricots.
- Apple and Quinoa Muffins
- Sesame Seed Bars
Pre chop your veggies before you store them
This is a great time saver that can help you out when you’re trying to throw together a healthy family meal.
Some veggies don’t suit this (think potato or parsnip) but most other veggies can be pre cut and safely stored in a plastic tub in the fridge.
Pack yourself a lunch box
This is ideal when you are heading out to work or to run errands – but it also works when you are staying home.
If you often find yourself grazing mindlessly throughout the day it doesn’t take long to have a calorie blow out (even healthy foods have calories).
Instead, pack yourself a healthy lunch box of morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea.
You’ll be able to ensure that your portions are adequate for your calorie needs, and you won’t be tempted to have ‘just one more’ treat.
Become a double batch cooker
If you are going to the trouble of cooking a meal, why not double it? It’s rarely very much extra work, and it can really help on another night when you are busy.
The extra meal can either be used for tasty leftovers – or pop it in the freezer to defrost on a busy night (when you might have normally ordered take away).
Prepare breakfast at night
If mornings are your busy time get into the habit of prepping your breakfast the night before.
Prepare your Healthy Mummy Smoothies by placing all of the fruit, yoghurt, smoothie powder and mix ins in a plastic tub in the fridge. You can even blend them up the night before and store them in the fridge if that helps.
Try a recipe like our Overnight Oats where you just throw everything into a mug and store in the fridge. Then just heat and eat when you wake up.
You can even do this with a recipe like our Two Minute Eggs from the Junk Food Detox Book. Just place all of the ingredients in a mug in the fridge the night before, and then cook them in the morning.
Recipes such as these Spinach and Ricotta Fritters or Blueberry Pancakes can also be made in advance and just heated up in the morning.
