If you are like many women and experience bloating or puffiness in the stomach area, you can often find yourself hiding behind baggy layers.
So if you’re keen to reduce the tummy bloat, read our tips below for which foods you should be putting into your trolley.
Even better, try to combine some of these foods for maximum benefit to your health.
Parsley

Bananas

  • Full of potassium, which helps to regulate the fluid in your body. Fluid retention is often linked with a bloated tummy.
  • Try this: Guilt-Free Banana Ice Cream

Nuts

  • Also potassium rich, nuts also contain protein which can keep you feeling fuller for longer (meaning you are less likely to over-eat). Eating until you are overly full is another cause of a bloated tum.
  • Try this: Spinach, Mango and Walnut Salad

Broccoli

  • This veggie is packed with fibre. Having plenty of fibre in your diet helps to get your system moving and reduce constipation. This means you are going to be more regular with your bowel movements, which can reduce bloating.
  • Try this: Beef and Broccoli in Oyster Sauce

Berries

  • Also full of fibre, berries such as raspberries also contain potassium. Plus they taste amazing, so why not throw some into your smoothies (frozen berries are quite economical and great to have as a back up to fresh fruit).
  • Try this: Raspberry Frozen Yoghurt Sorbet

Water

  • Even soda water can contribute to that puffy tummy, so try to reduce anything carbonated if this is an issue for you. Sweetened soft drinks (even the so-called ‘diet’ ones) are filled with sugars that can also leave you feeling puffed out. Alcohol can also cause stress on the liver which means it has to work harder to get rid of the toxins in your body. Why not try making your own healthy iced teas, which are both delicious and also a great way to stay hydrated without sugar.
  • Try this: Iced Mint Tea

Digestive supplements

  • If you feel as though your system is really sluggish, speak to your local pharmacist about whether you should take a supplement to improve your digestion.

Healthy Mummy Smoothies

  • These contain ingredients that are packed with fibre and protein, both of which can aid in getting a flatter stomach.
  • Try this: Green Smoothie

Apples

  • These are a great fibre-rich snack that is much easier for your body to process than say, a cake or a biscuit. By making your system work more efficiently you will have less digestive issues such as bloating or tummy cramps.
  • Try this: Apple And Blueberry Loaf

Wholegrains

  • It’s much easier for your system to process foods that are wholegrain based rather than white (such as white bread, white pasta and white rice). So lean towards brown rice, wholegrain pasta and bread that is both brown and grainy.
  • Try this: Healthy Wholegrain Banana Bread

Fish oil

  • Take these to slow down how quickly your body absorbs sugar. This can help to reduce bloating and you can even find fish oil tablets in our shop.
