  • Don’t skip meals

This is one of the most important parts of the Lose Baby Weight philosophy. Many so-called ‘dieters’ think that skipping a meal means that they are cutting down on their daily calories. But more often than not, it leads to a crash in energy levels later in the day, which can often lead to unhealthy snacking or over-eating at the next meal.   • Remember to snack

Not only is it important not to skip meals, it’s actually recommended to include healthy snacks in your day. A healthy snack could be some nuts, a small tub of yoghurt, some air popped popcorn, or some carrot sticks and home made guacamole. Snacking keeps your energy levels up, keeps you satisfied until your next meal, and helps to keep your metabolism firing.

  • Don’t drink excess calories

Often when we are thinking about our daily intake of calories we focus on what we have eaten. But calories in drinks can quickly add up, and may even tip you over the edge of the ideal daily calorie intake. A 450ml drink made with banana, oats, milk, yoghurt and honey from a popular juice bar comes in at 463 cals which is more calories than a standard meal. Another good option besides water is sparkling mineral water with some fresh lemon or lime. Or why not try a refreshing home made iced tea.

  • Get moving

And you don’t need to join a gym to do it. Exercise can take ANY form, so do whatever works for you. Walk with the kids to the park. Dance around the lounge room to some 80’s hits and let the baby laugh at you. Rent a workout DVD from the library and pop it on while the kids are asleep. Do some lunges while you wait for the kettle to boil. It’s also good to enlist the help of a workout buddy so that you can motivate each other.

  • Get support

You can also reach out to family and friends to assist you with your weight loss journey. It could be that your partner is happy to join you on your healthy eating plan or for a walk on the weekends.
You can also ask for help when you just need some time out. If you have friends who have offered to babysit the kids while you get a haircut, take them up on it. If your partner could give you a Sunday morning off to sleep in while he/she takes the kids to the park, even better. Sometimes you just need to ask for help and you realise it was there all the time.

  • Remember the big picture

We all have moments of weakness. But a temporary slip up is no reason to give up altogether. Every day is a new opportunity, so treat every day with a fresh outlook. Having a slice of cake at a friend’s birthday isn’t going to undo all the hard work that you’ve already put in. Remember the 80/20 rule and don’t feel guilty when you’re not ‘perfect.’

  • Look after yourself

If you run yourself ragged, eat poorly and don’t exercise it’s not going to be long until you are burnt out. Your family need you to be in good health, and that means you need to respect yourself enough to take care of you (as well as everyone else!). So take the time to buy the healthy food to stock your kitchen with, plan and cook healthy meals and snacks, and try to find the time to exercise.
