There seem to be a huge amount of fad diets on the market and supposed way to ‘lose weight fast’ but it can become confusing and misleading as many are simply not true and are nothing short of a gimmick.
On the Lose Baby Weight plans, we instead like to focus on healthy eating and you can click here to see why fad diets are not to be followed and the best advice to lose weight in a safe way.

So as there are many falsehoods around pregnancy weight loss so we’ve attempted to debunk the most common myths to help you be successful with your weight loss plan.

1) Bananas are Bad for Weight Loss

This is our favourite myth.
Contrary to popular belief bananas are not fattening or bad for weight loss.  Bananas offer an amazing fat-free package of natural energy, minerals, vitamins and dietary fibre.  Bananas are packed with potassium, which helps boost energy levels by maintaining normal blood pressure and heart rhythms. You can read more about the health and weight loss benefits of bananas here.

2) Eating Late at Night

Calories can’t tell the time!
It’s not when you eat that is important, but the total amount you consume in a 24-hour period.  Your body digests and uses calories the same way morning, noon and night.

3) Carbohydrates Make You Fat

Blanket generalisations that all carbs are bad carbs is very misleading; carbs are an important part of a healthy diet.
What is important is to remember that not all carbohydrates are created equal and you want to avoid processed carbs, and those that are high in sugar and white flour.  Stick with the wholegrain varieties and watch your portion control. See more on portion control here.

4) Eat Less, Lose More Weight

When faced with possible starvation, the metabolism slows and conserves fat to ensure your vital processes can keep functioning. Skipping meals will ultimately backfire as your body tries to conserve as much energy as possible, storing fat and using lean muscle tissue for energy. You can see more on how the metabolism works here

5) All Fat is Bad Fat

Most of us know by this isn’t true, its about picking the right kind of unsaturated fat.
Fat is what makes you feel full – unsaturated, healthy fats are essential for a well-functioning mind and body – omega-3 fats, for example, are important for your emotional and physical health – and are also very important for breastfeeding mums.

6) Low Fat Milk has Less Calcium Than Full Fat

Low fat or skimmed milk may actually have more calcium – did you know the calcium in milk is contained in the watery part not the creamy part.  If you are trying to cut fat from your diet to assist with weight loss, then low fat milk can be a great option because it is lower in fat and lower in calories – but if you don’t want to use skimmed milk you can buy full fat and water it down or use less. But if you are using a non dairy milk we also suggest buying a brand fortified with calcium as these non dairy milks are generally low in calcium. You can see more information on milks here and the nutrition value in the most popular variants too

7). Fat free, low calorie, diet products are the best foods for weight loss.

A trip to the supermarket today could result in a trolley full of ‘fat free, low calorie’ fare. While these products sound good on paper, what they often don’t mention on the label is the amount of artificial sweetener and other related ingredients that are used to make the products edible and tasty. The jury is still out on the effect of artificial sweeteners on the body and we think they’re best avoided when possible. The other side effect of low calorie/diet products? You tend to eat more of them when they’re got a low cal label on them. Our brains see those words and seem to think it means that a free for all is required. Conversely, when we eat the same product but in the full fat version (yoghurt for example) we’re likely to eat far less.
