Every month, a mum who is on the Lose Baby Weight plans will be writing about their journey, exercise, ups and downs and will be here to help motivate YOU and THEMSELVES along the way.
If you’d like to become our Motivating Mum for the month click here to find out more (we pay you for it too!).
This month we have Emilley Kingsman as one of our Motivating Mums. Emilley has lost over 20kg and you can read her first, second and third posts here.
Take it away Emilley!
‘I had a super positive moment on the weekend at my friend’s wedding. The day finally arrived! And it was beautiful. The bride was stunning!
My big weight loss happy moment came with my bridesmaid dress. We bought the bridesmaid dresses in November last year. I was a size 18 at the time with a 4 month old baby.
I was tired, overweight and still finding my mummy feet. But I was also a couple of weeks into the Lose Baby Weight plans.
Even though I didn’t see how it could be possible, I felt brave and bought a size 14 dress, a few sizes too small!
I’m proud to say that my size 14 bridesmaid dress was actually too big for me =) Yay!
It’s moments like that which really open my eyes to just how far I have actually come.
When I was 20kg heavier, the road ahead seemed long because there was so far to go.
But it gradually gets shorter and eventually you get to look back on that long road and go ‘Wow! I’ve come all that way!’ One of my favourite sayings: Don’t wish for it, work for it!
I’m starting to notice that my weight loss is slowing down as I get fitter and as I get closer to my 65kg goal. It’s still decreasing, but at a slower rate.
Some weeks it just stays the same. This doesn’t actually bother me because the scales aren’t really my focus. I would much rather see my cm going down and my fitness levels/strength going up!
I’m thinking that this stems from my love of exercise. Ha, I would never have said that 9 months ago!
It took me a few months initially, but I re-educated myself and learnt to view exercise in a positive light…I don’t exercise to punish my body, to counteract what I eat or to force my body to be something it’s not.
I do it because it gives me energy, it makes me happy, it helps me sleep better, it makes my body healthier, it clears my mind, it improves my mood.
And that’s only a few of the benefits…the list goes on and on!
You need to do it because you love your body, not because you hate it.
Once you can start seeing exercise in this way, you will start to look for every possible chance to be active.
Don’t feel disheartened if you’ve only just started exercising and aren’t exactly loving the sweatiness, the challenge, the puffing and the sore legs post-workout. It gets better, and so do you! I promise.
Change the way you look at it, one day at a time.
This week I’ve cooked some of the soups from the 7 Day Winter Warmer Plan. They were a huge hit with my son and hubby too!
We especially enjoyed the Vegetable and Lentil Soup with the toasted Mountain Bread. Warm, delicious and filling!
I cooked extra for lunches the next day. We freeze our leftovers in plastic containers that stack well in the freezer.
It’s easy for my husband to grab a few to take to work, and makes for a quick lunch for myself and my son. Heat and eat!
I’ve also tried to be more conscious of what snacks I eat between meals. Some yummy snacks that both my son and I enjoy are:
- a few pitted dates (awesome for a sweet fix – they taste like caramel!)
- hummus with vege sticks (Lose Baby Weight has an awesome recipe for hummus),
- natural low fat yoghurt with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a tiny drizzle of honey,
- Ryvitas with avocado and tomato
- banana slices sprinkled with cinnamon and put under the griller (warm and delicious!)
- apple slices with peanut butter
It’s fun trying new things, so one goal for next week is to bake some snacks from the Lose Baby Weight recipes section.
Now the hard part is deciding what to bake first…so many good things to choose from!
Yummy baked foods don’t have to be unhealthy or full of sugar, and the Lose Baby Weight recipes are proof of that.
This week I incorporated unsweetened almond milk into some of my smoothies, which made for a nice change. So I will be doing this more often.
I also made a fantastic green smoothie, full of goodness and deliciousness.
Green smoothies usually scare me because they sound horrible!
But once you make one you realise that they actually taste awesome. So if you haven’t made one before, you should get onto it!
There are some good green smoothie recipes on the website if you are unsure of where to start.
Also, on a side note, my 50km walking goal for June is moving along nicely.
29.9km down…that’s nearly 7 hours of walking with my son and dog!’
