At Lose Baby Weight and on our healthy eating we are BIG advocates of eating Quinoa as part of your meals and we try and incorporate it into our diet whenever we can and we include it on our 28 Day Diet & Exercise Plan.

But why is it so good for us?

Although technically a seed, Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is commonly referred to and used most often as a grain.
Once only available in health foods stores, Quinoa is now available year-round in most supermarkets (I get mine from Coles) and is one of the best foods we can eat and it has been used in cooking in many cultures for many centuries.

Quinoa’s protein content, about 16 percent (meat is approx 22%), is higher than that of any other grain.
Also, The World Health Organization has judged the protein in Quinoa to be as complete as that in milk, with the grain containing more iron than most other grains, and it is a good source of calcium, phosphorus, folate, and many B vitamins.
It is a complete protein, which means that it contains all the amino acids that are found in typical forms of protein. Quinoa has the ability to satisfy the human body’s daily requirement of protein and it is a good food to aid weight loss as it does not lead to weight gain and keeps you fuller for longer and helps with the dreaded hunger pangs!
It is also a high-fibre food with five grams of fibre per cup (cooked). The fibre in quinoa not only promotes digestive health, but may also reduce the risk of breast cancer in pre-menopausal women, may prevent cardiovascular disease and diabetes and aids weight maintenance.
Quinoa is also gluten-free, making it a nutritious substitute for those with wheat allergies or suffering from celiac disease.
So whenever you can incorporate it into your cooking please do and when you combine healthy foods like Quinoa into your diet and you will be giving your body a whole variety of nutrients to function in the best way possible which will all ensure that you are able to lose any baby weight you are still carrying – as well as being super healthy and bursting with energy!  For great Quinoa recipe see our  Quinoa recipes here
