This month we meet Motivating Mum Sarah Rackemann who has lost 16kg on our Lose Baby Weight plans.
To say I have had a big year is an understatement. I guess my story starts when I fell pregnant with my first son, who is now 2 and a half. I was living away from home and half way through a Ph.D in freshwater ecology when I fell pregnant. It was such an exciting time but also very busy and I didn’t really have the time or the skills to look after myself the way who is growing a bubba should. I always thought I was pretty healthy but looking back, I lived off processed food with high sugar/salt/additives content with a few veggies and fruits thrown in the mix. This inevitably resulted in low energy, weight gain and the start of my depression symptoms.
I fell pregnant with my second son when my eldest was around 15 months. We were still away from both of mine and my partners family so didn’t really have any support with the kids. So we decided to move back to Sam’s home town where his family live at the start of the year so we could have some help with my son while I was busy growing my second baby.
We had also set a date for our wedding, which is still to be on the 30th of November this year (eeeek so exciting!). So the list of things to do for the year was moving across the state, look after a toddler, have a baby, Sam started a new job AND organise a wedding!!! It was safe to say that eating well and exercising was not on my radar when I had so many other things to think about and deal with.
By the time my son was born in April I weighed the heaviest I had ever weighed, tipping the scales at 74kgs. I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me to get into shape for my wedding but I was getting very overwhelmed by the thought of how! I have always been fairly blessed with a fairly fast metabolism and a pretty slender frame but now I had all this extra weight and it really played with my mind. I have also been diagnosed with post natal depression and the negative thoughts about my body were only adding fuel to the fire.
I saw the lose baby weight page on facebook when I was about 6 weeks post partum, I was starting to get desperate for direction because I didn’t know where to start to get healthy and fit. I did a lot of research before I committed to the program because I have always been very sceptical of similar programs. There was so much information on the website, free recipes and everything was breastfeeding friendly! I was starting to get excited! I want to continue to feel fantastic, tone up and enjoy my increased energy levels so I can keep up with my two little munchkins.
