Hi, my name is Sheli and I’m super excited to be a Motivating Mum this month and I have lost 20kgs* with Lose Baby Weight.
Actually, it was scrolling through photos of Motivating Mums that urged me to join up 10 months ago, back in April 2015.
My second daughter was 7 weeks old. I had refused to weigh myself for the entire pregnancy but denial has a tendency to creep up on you and suddenly, I was shocked to realise that nothing in my wardrobe fit, not even my underpants.
Baggy T-shirts stretched tightly against my stomach. When I finally stepped on the scales, I was aghast to find that my 157cm frame had reached 82kgs.
I stumbled across the program by chance- the words Lose Baby Weight caught my attention, as you can imagine. I looked at picture after picture of incredible Before & Afters and without thinking very long or very hard, I signed up.

10 months later, I’ve lost 20kgs with another 5-7kgs until I reach my goal.
I’m the mumma who has to fight like a dog for every kilo lost- weight does not fall of me…it is painstakingly wrenched away. I’ve never been skinny. I guess I’ve always been…let’s call it CURVY. And I have always eaten quite well…just a little too much. Plus I’m blessed with genetics (thank you mum and dad) that favour extra weight, especially around the mid-section *sigh*.
With the 28 Day Challenges, I’ve averaged a loss of approximately 2kgs a month, with a couple of months stuck on a plateau. But for the first time in my life, I just keep going. That is what is amazing about this program for me- it’s not temporary, it’s a lifelong journey of health and self-love.
Here’s how I do it:
- I have a smoothie most mornings for breakfast. As a working mum who needs to be out of the house by 7:15am, smoothies are a lifesaver in terms of convenience. I sip it in the car on the way to work and it fills me up more than eggs on toast. Banana Buster is my go-to but I’ve done them all.
- I customise challenge meal plans every week. It very rarely resembles the original but that’s okay- I love that there are so many options available. I’m all about making life as simple as possible, so I’ll have leftover dinners for lunch, similar snacks throughout the week and a simple 20g of dark chocolate with herbal tea is my post-dinner staple.
- Prepping on Sunday has become a must if I’m to stay on track. Even if I can get two double batch dinners ready, it makes a huge difference. If it’s a busy weekend, I’ll have simple snacks on the go, like fruit, pretzels or popcorn, and eggs for dinner. If I have the time and energy on the weekend, I’ll bake and cook up a storm, storing things away for more desperate times!
- Exercise: when I started out with a two-month old and a 21 month old, if I could go for a walk with the double pram- that was enough! Slowly, I’ve built up my exercise level and found ways to fit it into my life. Basically, I prioritise it. For someone who has never been a sporty person, who trembled with anxiety at the prospect of physical activity, this is huge. These days, I do group fitness every Sat morning, a gym session once a week after work, and a couple of solo workouts either jogging in the morning or doing the LBW DVD. Whatever I can fit in.
- I used to calorie count, tracking everything in My Fitness Pal, but these days I don’t use it often, as I’ve come to learn how much I should be eating.
I know what a huge difference past Motivating Mums have made to me, and I hope I can offer the same to you.
I’m not going to tell you it’s easy because the truth is – to make big changes you need to make a big effort.
But I can tell you that I am a happier person today, not because I’m thinner but because I’m looking after and nurturing myself, finally.
Looking forward to meeting you all this month.
Love Sheli xx

Hayley Lost 29.5kgs* with the 28 Day Challenge
Hayley says: “I do my own weekly meal plans using the customisable meal plan from the 28 Day Challenge.I love how on Lose Baby Weight our weekly menu has changed from a heavy meat based menu to being vegetarian at least 3 nights a week and then on the nights we do eat meat it doesn’t dominate the meal like it used to.”
