Find some friendly competition
Grab yourself a training buddy and get sweaty together. Challenge each other with some mini goals – whether that’s kilos lost, kilometres walked, or seconds lost from personal bests.
Track your progress
It’s so hard to see how far you’ve come in terms of fitness as the changes can be (painfully) slow.
So why not start taking some notes (or use an app) to see how long it takes you to jog 2km for instance. You can then compare how you are doing in one month, two months, etc and you will most likely see an improvement. Consider it a virtual pat on your own back.
Get the kids involved
Sometimes getting out of the house for exercising can be nearly impossible (that’s why we love the Healthy Mummy Post Pregnancy Exercise DVD).
So why not embrace the chaos and get the kids involved with your workout.
- Throw them on bikes/scooters/in prams for a witching hour walk.
- Go and fly a kite in the park on a breezy day.
- Use babies as weights while you do squats and lunges.
- Chase them around the back yard.
Just keep moving – it will burn those calories and the kids will love it.

Sign up for a fun run
Sure it might not sound that fun right now, but having a goal in mind for the future can really get you focused on training now.
It could be a 5km local run that you sign up for with a few friends, and you can then all use that as a goal for your training.
Try a new sport
If you have always wanted to try stand up paddle boarding, or rock climbing – now is the time!
Sign yourself up to try a new sport and you might just find something you really enjoy, and meet some like minded people in the process.
Log your progress
We love hearing how you are doing on our Facebook support page.
So whether you’re with us on the 28 Day Challenge, or taking part in a mini challenge like our Tone Your Butt and Thighs Challenge, you can jump online and share your progress (and cheer on the other mums taking part).
Feeling like part of a team is a great way to stay motivated. We are all in this together ladies!
Find a new location
If you always go for a walk around the same blocks of houses, it can get a bit dull. Change it up completely by walking on the beach instead (or up and down some sand dunes if you can find some!).
A change of scene and a new type of terrain is a great way to keep your body guessing, which can lead to some great results.

Start or join a training group
Having a small crew of people to train with is a great way to push yourself out the door. Knowing there are people waiting for you (and who will most likely give you a hard time for missing a session) can really keep you on track.
It could be a boot camp style class, a weekly Zumba session, an outdoor mum-friendly group that meet for a walk with their prams. Whatever works for you.
Make a playlist
Music is a great way to add fun to your workout. Spend some time compiling a selection of mood boosting music that could see you looking forward to hitting the footpath for a jog.
Embrace your inner child
Remember as a child you would often be active without even realising it? We want you to bring that back – try hula hooping, skipping, roller skating or even jump on the trampoline (and work on that pelvic floor!).
