Hi Mummies,
Whenever we start a new journey, whether it is weight loss or a new hobby, the first week is always the best. You are hyped up, excited for new adventures, you feel like you can take over the world! Then, the month goes on and you find yourself getting a bit slower. Life is hectic and things just start getting in the way so your weight loss goal or activity is put on the second shelf. By the end of the month you’re thinking, I’m not sure if this is worth all the effort.
Sound familiar? I know it does for me, so I am going to show you ways to push through the mid month slump and how to fit your goals in around everything else.
Exercise can often be the first hurdle you need to overcome. I often found myself making excuses.
“Oh I can’t exercise, baby has an appointment”
Or “I am just so busy I don’t have time”
Well, that is just not true. Yes we are busy woman and there are always going to be appointments and school drop offs and laundry to be done but they aren’t excuses, they are opportunities!
Take the appointment one for example, you’re taking baby to the doctor at 11 but we all know doctors are never on time so what do we do while we are waiting in the doctors office? We squat, we lunge and we work up a little sweat.
Can’t put the baby down, even better! Hold your gorgeous bundle of joy and add some weights! Got some washing to do? You can do marching on the spot or grab a small step and do Step Ups.
When you are cleaning the house, make it an exercise. Making dinner, do some dancing; dancing is an excellent source of cardio. Everything can involve exercise. You can fit it in, I promise!
The next thing that hits the back burner is food. Often with children we find ourselves eating the leftovers. Don’t be ashamed, we’ve all seen the last fish finger on the plate and just gobbled it up but we don’t have to. If there are left overs on the plate chuck them straight in the bin or in the fridge.
Don’t give them a second thought. Just think, if you had left overs you couldn’t finish at a restaurant it would be a bit weird if someone else came and finished them for you, so think that way when you go to eat your child’s dinner. Make it weird because then you won’t do it.

If you find yourself running out of time at night to make dinner I highly suggest pre preparation. Spend 30 minutes to an hour on a weekend cutting your vegies, your meat and making marinades and freezing them. If you do this, all you need to do each day is pop it out of the freezer in the morning to defrost and by dinnertime you just cook it and you are done. It is all about being organised. I cannot stress this enough. To make any anything work, you must be organised.
If you find yourself losing steam to continue I suggest writing down your goals and putting them in your phone or on the calendar so you see them, so that you don’t lose the want and the drive to achieve them. If you don’t reach your mini goal by your proposed date that is okay because the fact that you are striving for it is just as good; just keep going. No one is judging you, many of us have been in the same situation but we have your back, we believe in you.
Now about me, this first week was pretty amazing for me. I mentioned before that I was going to try the Lose Baby Weight DVD for the first time this month. Well, if you don’t already have it, I suggest you go order it. In just one 15-minute session I had worked up an amazing sweat and felt like I had just done a class at the gym.
Lisa Westlake is fantastic. She speaks kindly and is easy to follow at all times. I love that this DVD is all about doing it at your pace and making it your work out. I fit the workouts in during my sons nap or just after he has gone to bed or while I have some spare time to myself. It makes exercising accessible and easy.
Goal wise, I am happy to say I lost another kilo so I am down to 84kgs. I am absolutely stoked. I haven’t been this light since I was 16. I have lost 10cms this week alone off my waist, 3cms off each arm and 2cms off my thighs. I am thrilled. My other goal is to jog 5kms without stopping and so far I am up to 3.9ks. It is a push and by the end of it I want to lay down on my cold tiles and fall asleep but I am slowly working myself up to it and I really think I will reach 5ks by New Years Eve.
This mid month slump is no more, mummies! No excuses, no giving up, we can do this together! We are going to push ourselves and achieve our goals and our bodies will thank us for it.
