It’s too hot. It’s too cold. I’m too tired. There’s no time. The kids aren’t well. I’ve got a sore back. The children need me here. I can’t find my shoes.
Sound familiar?
Every day, we tell ourselves all types of excuses not to exercise in order to lose pregnancy weight. Today we are giving you stacks of ways to kick the excuses and start moving.

Remember: there is never an ideal time to exercise when you are trying to shift that post baby weight.
If you want to start seeing the positive changes in your body that exercise can bring, you need to find a way to carve out some time in your busy day.
Most likely there won’t be a leisurely hour where you could have the kids minded, and have nothing better to do than a fitness session.
So why not try these ideas instead.

10 Ways To Squeeze Some Exercise In

  • Wake up 20 minutes earlier than the kids and do a segment from the Healthy Mummy Post Pregnancy Exercise DVD. Even though sleep is a precious commodity when you’re a mum, sacrificing 20 minutes won’t make much difference to how well rested you feel. But a bit of exercise will.
  • Set the kids up with paper and coloured pencils or a puzzle and do our 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 workout. They might even want to join in!
  • Heading out to run errands? Leave the car at home or park it further away and incorporate a brisk walk. Sure it might make the jobs take a bit longer but at least you have managed to squeeze some fitness into your day.
  • Instead of a playdate at a friend’s house (where you would most likely be sitting down), suggest meeting at the park with prams or scooters and go for a walk as a group. You can still catch up with your friend while squeezing in a bit of exercise.
  • Use household chores as a way to build in exercise. You could do squats while you hang the washing. March around the house while you pick up toys. Do lunges while the kids eat dinner. If you have stairs, run up and down them a few times to get your heart rate up.
  • Arrange to mind a friend’s children while she goes to exercise for an hour; and then another day she can mind yours while you sneak off for a jog or swim.
  • Enjoy your down time watching television while squeezing in a Lounge Room Workout.
  • Wait until the kids are asleep and someone is home to watch the kids while you go for a short walk or do a segment or two from the Healthy Mummy Post Pregnancy Exercise DVD.
  • Have a family dance off during the witching hour at 5pm. Just when everyone is getting cranky and irritable, pump up your favourite song and have a boogie in the lounge room to lighten the mood.
  • When you are heading to the school drop off or to an appointment, arrive 15 minutes early and walk around the block a few times. This is a great habit to get into as it uses up time that you might normally just spend sitting in the car or in a waiting room.
