The end of June is here and it’s been a fantastic month in which I have loved being a Winter Warrior Motivating Mum. I feel energised, motivated and excited about July.
The last week something felt like it changed. I had been treading water a little before then, going through the motions and doing most of the right stuff, but my heart wasn’t into it and the way my clothes were fitting reflected it.
Two things changed this. The first was bringing in some HIIT sessions throughout my day and making using my exercise bike a priority. The high intensity nature of HIIT training and the fact that it incorporates a lot of body resistance exercises has been fantastic, and I can see the change in my muscle tone already. I then stopped with the excuses about why I couldn’t use my bike and just started to. I chose baby free exercise over baby free showering and it’s the best thing I could have done. I’m working hard, sweating harder, the music is loud and it’s the release I love.
Exercise can be so positive and therapeutic like that.
The second thing that brought back my mojo started with a severe ‘dairy’ reaction to coconut cream, which led me on an investigative path which I think has changed my life. What do coconut cream and dairy have in common? Fructose as it turns out. The more I looked into fructose malabsorption, the more it made sense and much like when I got treated for depression I started to realise what I had accepted as normal wasn’t normal.
Constant upset belly, gas, bloating, diarrhoea, fatigue, weight gain, brain fog and even depression are symptoms of fructose malabsorption and aren’t normal. I have my test to confirm it in a few weeks, but in the meantime I have been following a low fructose low fodmap diet and it has made the world of difference. Fortunately The Healthy Mummy recipes are both plentiful and easy to adapt to my new dietary requirements, and I’m finding it easy to meal plan with the help of the challenge recipes and cookbooks.
The next few months as I continue on this path feel exciting to me. There is something about this change that has me full of energy even on those days when I’ve had no sleep. It’s a new chapter in my book of being the healthiest me possible and I’d love to share my progress with you along the way.
Until next time stay happy.
