A bit about me……
healthy_mummyI’m mum to one gorgeous and extremely energetic almost 4 year old son, and my beautiful 5 month old daughter.
I put on 10kgs with my first, lost it pretty much within a few weeks, but put back on another 7kgs due to being so hungry while breastfeeding.
When my son was 12 months old I stopped breastfeeding, embarked on a health and fitness kick and lost 8kgs!!
I also completed 3 fun runs which was massive for me, who has never ever been an exerciser let alone a runner!!  When my baby boy was 2, and just a couple of weeks before our wedding we lost our second baby :’(
I struggled for a long time to get over this loss, it felt like no one understood my pain.  And the comments like “at least you weren’t far along”, “at least you can get pregnant again”, “it wasn’t meant to be” etc, etc didn’t help either.  I became paranoid of exercise.
I didn’t want to chance losing another pregnancy, so when I finally did become pregnant again I was already about 6kgs over my ideal weight, and I avoided exercise and suffered from back pain and extreme lack of energy.
Fast forward to five months ago, and my beautiful baby girl was born, (in one heck of a hurry – she arrived 20 minutes after we got to the hospital!) and we could not have been happier!  Im so blessed to have 2 such beautiful, happy and content babies and would not change them for the world.
I only put on 10kg once again with this pregnancy, but as I’d started a few kgs above my ideal weight, at 78kgs I was the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life.  I hated getting dressed every day, I felt so ugly, and my belly felt so huge and flabby.
Through the birth and feeding I managed to lose 6kgs fairly quickly, but still felt very uncomfortable and not wanting to go out in public because I hated the way I looked.  Hopefully when I did, everyone was too busy looking at my gorgeous baby girl instead!!
I’ve been following your 28 day plan and enjoying your healthy mummy smoothies for about 8 weeks now, Im feeling great, have more energy and starting to feel my waistline coming back, yay!
Admittedly, I haven’t been very strict, especially with the exercise.  I’ve still been a bit scared to do much as I’ve had some problems with separated abdominals and back pain, but I’ve started seeing a physio and I admit, I do notice bigger changes when I actually do the exercise.
So far I’ve only lost 3kg, but Im now back in the 60’s, 1kg off my pre-pregnancy weight and 7kg to my goal weight.  I know I can do the work it takes to get me to my goal, and I want to do this by Christmas (this year ha ha!)  I know I just have to prioritise exercise and make sure I do it, rather than falling into the couch after the kids are in bed at 7pm and realising I’ve forgotten to exercise again.
Any way, Im so glad I found your fantastic website.  I love that its perfect for people like me, busy, breastfeeding mums who want to regain their bodies while not compromising their milk supply.
So here is my favourite smoothie recipe, I hope you love it as much as I do!

Green Ginger Refresh

Full of fruit, colour, flavour and goodness – and a bit of zing!
Thin with more water if desired, this makes quite a thick smoothie.  I love that I don’t need to add any milk and its still very filling and satisfying J

  • ½ cup of water
  • 6 ice cubes
  • 2 tablespoons Healthy Mummy Vanilla Mix
  • 1/2 medium banana, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 orange, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 medium apple (any type), peeled, cored & chopped
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Ginger, fresh, 1 tablespoon finely grated
  • Baby Spinach, 1 cup

Place all ingredients in a blender and whizz until smooth and combined.
Pour into a large glass and enjoy!
