The temperature is finally heating up and summer is nearly here!  Hooray for no more winter clothes and an even bigger hooray for healthy summer eating where the BBQ can be your new best friend.  The BBQ can be your new best friend for two reasons – one it means you can finally put your feet up and let your man do the cooking and two BBQ cooking naturally lends itself to healthy eating which will make you feel and look fantastic and help you lose your baby weight!

Lean protein foods and lots of salads and veggies are key to speeding up your metabolism and losing the baby weight and Lose Baby Weight has created some tasty BBQ recipes for you inspired and to get your man onto whilst you can take a well deserved relax – if only it was summer all year round…….

Prawn kebabs

For the marinade mix up 4 crushed cloves of garlic, a juice of one lime, 2 tablespoons of crushed or freshly grated ginger, 1 tablespoon of cider vinegar, 1 crushed or finely chopped red chilli and a good sprinkling of salt and pepper – mix together really well and add your prawns onto the skewers (alternating the prawns with fresh veggies of your choice such as baby tomatos, red onion, yellow pepper, mushrooms or eggplant) and coat with the marinade  – leave for a couple of hours then pop onto the BBQ for approximately 8 minutes.

Serve with a spinach and mango salad and dilute the marinade with some more cider vinegar and olive oil to use as a dressing

Calamari with spicy herb paste and lemon

For the herb paste combine fresh rosemary, thyme, sage, 3 red or green chilli’s, 3 cloves of garlic, 2 tablespoons of ground ginger, 2 grated lemon peels, 2 grated orange peels, ½ teaspoon of paprika and olive oil to blend.

Coat the fresh calamari with the paste and grill on the BBQ for 5 minutes.  Lay out on a plate with segments of lemon and orange to garnish.  Serve with an green salad with asparagus spears, red pepper, sliced boiled eggs and green beans.  For a salad dressing mix the juice of 1 lemon with a tablespoon of cider vinegar and olive oil.

BBQ chicken with salsa and pitta bread

Choose fresh chicken breast and lightly season the chicken with salt and pepper and pop on the BBQ

To make the salsa combine 4 large tomatoes, 4 cloves of garlic, a bunch of basil, 2 red chilli’s, 1 finely chopped onion, a cup of sweetcorn and some chopped parsley.

Serve with fresh and warm wholegrain pitta bread and a green salad
