Hi, my name is Sheli and I signed up to the 28 Day Challenges exactly a year ago today.
I was coming to terms with the fact that I had completely let myself go during my second pregnancy, eaten nothing but chocolate and pasta, not doing any exercise and feeling emotionally more unhappy than I was able to admit.
I despised the way I looked in the mirror, and none of my clothes fit. I shamefully bought size 16 pants from Kmart, shocked at what I had allowed myself to do- a 30kg weight gain over the course of the pregnancy.
It was the before and after photos that won me over the night I signed up. I wanted so badly to be one of those women.
It’s hard to believe that a year has passed and now I really am one of those women, over 20kgs* down and a motivational mum.
People still regularly comment on my weight loss. I have a whole new wardrobe of clothes that fit well and look great. My husband can’t keep his hands off my newly firmed up butt(!) and I like how I look in the mirror.
But more than that: I have energy that I didn’t even realise I was lacking. Lethargy had become my norm. Now, I thrive after exercise, and most importantly, I’m a happier person. Not because overweight people are unhappy, but because the truth is, I wasn’t nurturing or loving myself enough to look after myself.
I’ve always struggled with my weight and have tried pretty much every weight loss program out there.
Some worked short-term, but I always ended up putting the weight back on.
Lose Baby Weight is different, because it really is a lifestyle change: gentle and sustainable enough to last the distance and completely mum-friendly, which frankly, is essential.
Even when I reach my goal weight (5 more kilos to go!), I’ll continue with the challenges, because I love the recipes and I love the meal planning. It makes my life simpler, gives me control over my health, saves me money and keeps me feeling organised and on top of things.
I also love the support from the Facebook group, the endless tips and words of encouragement, the ideas and philosophies – it’s such a special network that gives me a lot of pleasure to be a part of.
One year on and I’m a daily smoothie drinker, regular exerciser (always hated exercise) and healthy eater not by obligation but by choice.
That’s what makes all the difference. Several of my friends have joined The Health Mummy 28 day weight loss challenge after being inspired by my weight loss, and I’m really proud of that. But most importantly, I’m proud of showing my young daughters that exercise can be fun, and hopefully set them on that path for life.
I could not recommend this program more highly!
