Hello again – I’m feeling very fortunate and excited to be back as a Motivating Mum for January!
This month I have been getting back to routine after a lovely Christmas holiday break spent with my family (we live 4.5hrs away from our family so it’s nice to spend some extended time together). Over the break I was definitely more relaxed with my eating, I enjoyed spending time with my family and sometimes ate a little more that I would usually, but hey, this is a lifestyle – I am not just losing weight for now – I am gaining health for the long run to benefit myself and my family.
January has been a milestone month for me! I found out that I was one of the nominees for Lose Baby Weight Weight Loss Mum of the Year, which absolutely blew me away with surprise and honour to be alongside so many wonderful, amazing, fabulous and inspirational women who have had fantastic success in changing their lifestyle and getting healthy and fab.

Just recently, I weighed in at 83.9kg which brings me to over 26kg lost following Lose Baby Weight Plans and only 3.9kg to goal weight. It has also resulted in two very important things for me – I now weigh less than my husband for the first time EVER! And being under 85kg has meant that I can go on the trampoline with my son, which is something so important to me and really was one of my ‘rock bottom moments’.
My first post in the closed facebook group was a commitment to myself that I would make changes to get healthier and lose weight so I could do things with my son that I was missing out on. One of those things was the trampoline he was getting for his 2nd birthday (30 Aug 2014) where at my starting weight of 110kg, I alone, was over the weight limit. Being under 85kg has meant that my 15kg son and I can go on the trampoline together. To say I was happy would be the understatement of the year – I was nearly in tears.
These are the moments that make it all worth it. The saying no to that extra portion when I didn’t really need it anyway, the workouts during my lunch break at work because it was the only time i could fit it in, the being organised so that when I’m hungry I can turn to wholesome nutritious and delicious meals instead of the junk I was eating.

Over the past 7 months following the Lose Baby Weight Plans there have been some weeks where the scales have not been kind, some weeks they’ve been very kind, some weeks I’ve stuck to the plan very well and some weeks where I’ve eaten out and exercised little. I don’t exclude any foods as it’s just not going to be realistic for me to do so. What I have found is a balance and for the first time in a zillion weight loss attempts before, I don’t get angry at myself if I don’t stick to the meal plan, I just move on and continue to eat well the rest of the time.
I generally don’t exercise more if I’m going to be eating out or have eaten ‘off the plan’, but I do work hard during my workouts, exercise regularly and eat well most of the time. Do I eat cake? Sometimes, but more often I chose not to. Do I feel tired and miss a workout? Sometimes, but more often than not, I pick myself up and just start…once I’ve started I usually end up loving it and feel so much more energised afterwards. These are the things which work for me. To make this approach a lifestyle, you have to find your own balance.
Most importantly out of all the advice is to give yourself a little love, a lot of love actually. It’s hard when you’re not used to doing so, just like some of the changes you might be making are hard. It won’t happen in a day, but the more you keep making those little changes and working on getting your head in the game, you’ll be becoming a healthier and fitter Mumma and that’s what it’s all about really.
