Hi, I’m Alex and I have lost 11.5kgs with Lose Baby Weight.
I’m mum of one, a step mum of 2 and a primary school teacher. Our family life is very busy and we travel interstate every fortnight to pick up my partners children.
I work long days, sometimes without a break and had always found it hard to balance a healthy lifestyle until I found the Lose Baby Weight program.
Since the start of the countdown to summer I have lost another 1.5kg making my total weight loss since starting 11.5kg. My measurements are also down. From the start of my weight loss I’ve lost 14 cm from my bust, 20.5cm from my waist and 18 cm from my hips.
I’ve also started running! Yes running!! I’m only at the start of my running journey but rewind 12 months and I would have laughed at the idea of running.
Actually, I would have laughed at the idea of exercise in general. Thinking back I used to use so many different excuses not to exercise.
I’m too tired
I would wake up in the morning and say I was too tired. After work I was too tired. On the weekends I was too tired. Just more excuses! Instead of using this excuse day after day I changed my alarm clock in the morning and started with a 20 minute walk on the treadmill. After a few days my body adjusted to the early morning and I actually started to feel refreshed. Now I find that when I exercise I actually sleep better and feel better during the day.
I’m too busy
But I wasn’t too busy to watch my favourite television shows or play on my iPad. I wasn’t busy at all, I was just plain lazy! So I kicked myself into gear and started walking on the spot during my favourite shows or doing my weights.
I don’t like to sweat
Who does? LAME excuse. I read on the Lose Baby Weight Facebook page a quote; ‘sweating is fat crying.’ Now I let my fat cry… actually I let it bawl its eyes out!
It’s too hot! It’s too cold!
The weather is always going to be horrible for exercise if you let it be. Change your exercise to suit the weather conditions. If it was too cold I would exercise inside or put on another layer. If it was too hot I would go swimming or exercise in the cooler part of the day.
I’ll start tomorrow
No. You. Won’t! I think I used this excuse for years and I would eat all the junk food in the house to get rid of it ready for my new healthy lifestyle. The next day was the same and it went on and on and on until I finally bit the bullet and started walking with my daughter in the pram. Small distances to start with and then I increased it as I felt more comfortable. Don’t put off what you can do today.
I have to look after the kids
The baby is sleeping and the kids want to get out of the house. Why use this silly excuse? Ahhhh that’s right I was lazy. To cut this excuse I would put my daughter in the pram and walk to the park with the kids. Everyone was happier in the fresh air playing and getting in some exercise. I even found that I enjoyed it as it gave me time to talk to the kids about different things and gave them a different experience.
I’m embarrassed by how I look
I used this excuse regularly and it was my partner who finally snapped as said, ‘Well do something about it Alex!’ That was my turning point. I didn’t want to always be the biggest person in the photos, I didn’t want to always buy XL clothes and kid myself that they would fit. I wanted to enjoy the way I looked and enjoy fitness.
My top tips for scrapping the excuses and starting exercise:
- Start small and work your way up.
- Include the family in exercise- everyone will love it and it sets great examples for your kids.
- Get a walking/running/gym buddy- the time will go much quicker and you both get fit together.
- Start exercise you enjoy
- Don’t be embarrassed, be proud of the new you!
I hope by reading my excuses you find motivation to start exercising or continue on your exercise journey. I know I won’t be using these excuses during my new healthier, happy life.
Alex xx
