My name is Melissa, and I am 36 years old. I have the privilege of being Mum to my beautiful 9yr old daughter and spunky 6yr old son. I have been following the Lose Baby Weight plans and products since November 2014 and have lost 13.8kg’s to date. I am so excited to be one of the Motivating Mums for July and to walk this journey with you.

Weight loss has been a battle for the majority of my adult life. Despite being lean as a teenager I gradually put on more and more weight as an adult.
After having my children I was at the heaviest I had ever been and desperately miserable. I couldn’t bear to look in the mirror, and busied myself meeting everyone else’s needs to avoid facing the internal conflict that I hid from. In hindsight I can see that the more unhappy I grew, the more I looked to be comforted with food; which only lead to more guilt and self-loathing. This was a vicious cycle.
By October 2014 I knew that I had to do something about my health. I had no energy to engage with my children, I was exhausted by the end of the working day, and was growing concerned about the long-term implications of my poor nutritional choices.
I knew exactly what I should do. The fierce competitor within me knew how to exercise. The biologist and educator within me knew what I should be eating … but I needed the mindset to move from the tyranny of ‘the should’ to saying no to excuses and making a change.
My dear sister-in-love introduced me to Lose Baby Weight….and with one Google search, all my excuses melted away. She softly and lovingly offered to do this with me…. and forever I am grateful. We started meal planning and exercising together. She helped inspire me into fantastic routines and I have never looked back!

I adored the challenge months! The challenges helped me focus and prepare well for success.
The energy within the Facebook Support Group was infectious and spurred me on to achieve my goals.
The customisable meal plans enabled me to plan to fuel my body and my children with nutrient rich, delicious food, specific to the needs of our family. The challenge exercises were perfectly designed for my busy lifestyle and enabled me to build my fitness and lean muscle over time. You can only imagine my excitement when Rhian announced that challenges would become monthly!
By April of 2015 I had re-found my happy. I had exceeded my expectations and was challenging myself to do things I had never dreamed possible!
I felt like a new woman. However life was about to throw me yet another curve ball to contend with. I experienced a serious setback with my health that threatened to de-rail me.
I was unable to eat or drink. Unable to exercise or function as I had become accustom to. I knew this was an opportunity to hold onto what I had learnt from Lose Baby Weight and remain focused on being as healthy and fit as I could be.
Following my surgery I was placed on a restricted diet. I am so thankful for the customisable menu’s that ensure that I get my required calories each day with delicious food. I now have to work really hard to get back the fitness and muscle condition that I had previously built.

So what are your goals for July? Are they specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely (SMART goals)? I am committed to

  • Consuming my daily calories (this is a challenge on a purely liquid/pureed diet!!)
  • Building deliberate physical activity into my day – EVERYDAY. Even if it is small. Every bit counts.
  • Having the energy to play outside with my children on an increasing basis over the month.
  • Drinking at least 2Lt of water everyday.

Compared to past challenges these goals seem somewhat limited. However I have to remind my pride that comparison is a dangerous game.
These goals are specific to where I am currently at and guided toward getting me back to where I want to be. May I encourage you to not fall into the ‘comparison’ trap too J
I can’t wait to continue this journey with you throughout July. I certainly hope that I can share a few of the tips and tricks that I have learnt along the way and they will help you to stay focused, and motivated.
