As a mum, it’s almost a luxury to

  1. Have a shower
  2. Have a shower on your own
  3. Have time in whilst in the shower to wash your hair

The trouble is, when you are trying to lose pregnancy weight you are most likely trying to squeeze a bit of exercise into your day.  This means you will probably need to was your hair a bit more often than perhaps you used to.
This is where dry shampoo can really come in handy. Not only does it mean you don’t actually have to get wet, it also means you can do a few mini workouts throughout the day (think 10 minute segments on our Healthy Mummy Post Pregnancy Workout DVD or the exercises on our 28 Day Challenge).

The ingredients of a commercially bought dry shampoo sound like a science experiment (they include butane, isobutane and propane), and it can get quite pricey if you are using it regularly.
So why not just open your pantry cupboard and make your own dry shampoo at home for a fraction of the cost?
The basic premise of a dry shampoo is to use a substance that absorbs oil to remove the oil from your hair. A product that you most likely already own that can do just that is cornflour.

Blonde Hair

  • 1 cup cornflour
  • 1-2 drops of essential oil (rose, lavender, vanilla, cirtus or whatever smell you love)

Brunette Hair

  • 1 cup cornflour
  • 1tbs cocoa
  • 1-2 drops of essential oil (rose, lavender, vanilla, citrus or whatever smell you love)

You can either just sprinkle it onto the roots, leave for two minutes, and then comb it out, or apply it with a large makeup brush (this way you don’t get too much at once).
