Hi Mums! I have lost 16kgs* with the Lose Baby Weight programme.
Lose Baby Weight-16kg loss
I’ve tried so many different ways to lose weight over the years.
Some worked for a while, all were very hard to stick with, but none had long-lasting results.

I first tried one program when I was 16, but couldn’t stick to it.  Tried it again as an adult, but couldn’t commit to attending weekly meetings.
I tried appetite suppression pills, which didn’t work.
Shakes with water, shakes with milk, shakes I couldn’t drink while breastfeeding.
Diets and gym programs written up by Personal Trainers.  12 week programs on which I was starving and exhausted.
And then I found The Healthy Mummy and Lose Baby Weight- WHICH WORKED!!!
Since committing to myself and the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge in January this year:

  • I’ve not been starving
  • I’ve not been working out to the brink of exhaustion
  • I’ve continued having sweet treats
  • I’ve eaten or drunk breakfast each and every morning
  • I’ve become fitter
  • I’ve become happier
  • My PCOS symptoms have improved
  • My family is healthier and happier
  • I’m much more organised
  • I’ve lost more weight than I managed to do with anything else I’d tried before!

Prior to Lose Baby Weight, I lost 6.5kg by making some healthy lifestyle changes on my own, including cutting out cows milk due to my son’s intolerance.
Since joining the 28 Day Challenge, and introducing the Healthy Mummy smoothies from September 2014, I’ve lost a further 16.5kg and am currently maintaining a healthy weight of 60-61kg while I focus on increasing my fitness and toning my body.
I look down at my belly sometimes and think “why can’t I have a flat stomach like other ladies who’ve lost weight?”
But then I look back at old photos of myself and realise that losing 23kg in 15 months (over 16kg just in 12 months thanks to Healthy Mummy and Lose Baby Weight) and think “Wow! I did that! I’ve come such a long way and I’ve actually done it!”  My body has been overweight since puberty.
I’ve not treated myself well, and my weight has gone up and down over the years.

I’ve also carried two big babies in my jelly belly and nursed them on my saggy breasts for over a year each (Destructor is still nursing on occasion at 20 months).  My journey is my own and there is no way it can compare to someone else’s.
I recently travelled interstate for some time away and had a “Heavy” tag attached to my suitcase, because it weighed 23kg (I don’t travel light).
It was a really heavy suitcase!  I needed to bend my knees and practice my OH&S Manual Handling techniques when handling it.  Hubby also left me to carry it up and down the stairs at home.  I struggled.  Then it dawned on me..  I used to carry that amount of extra weight on my body! Every day! Goodness!  23kg is a LOT – that’s more than what my 5 year old weighs!
The 16.5kg I’ve lost since September last year is more than what my toddler weighs!

He currently weighs 14kg, which is just under the amount I’ve lost since January this year!  I carry him on my back when I complete cross country runs during bootcamp and while I get puffed on the hill-climb, I keep reminding myself that I’m much fitter than I was when I last used to carry that amount.
It really helps to put things into perspective, especially when it comes to weight loss.
I often see ladies on the Healthy Mummy and Lose Baby Weight Support Group comment: “I only lost 500g this week”, “Only a 250g loss here” or “Only a 1kg loss – I expected more!”
Let me help you put your “onlys” into perspective:

  • 100g is about 100 almonds, or a palm-sized portion of meat
  • 250g is a block of butter, or about $5 of deli ham off the bone
  • 500g is about a loaf of bread, a carton of small eggs, or half a kilo of sugar
  • 1kg is about a dozen sausages, a bag of flour, or a big tub of yoghurt
  • 5kg is a family-sized roast pork

I remember when my Obstetrician made a comment about predicting baby #2 as a whole pound heavier than baby #1, and said “there’s a big difference between 4kg and 4.5kg!” (he was right on the money, by the way) I thought “pfft! That’s only 500g!”  Then when I thought about it, half a kilo is quite a large steak!

Embrace the losses, ladies, no matter how small you think it is.
Put it into perspective by comparing it to items you have around the house.
Some weeks there will be big losses, other weeks there will be small losses, and there will be gains or no movement in other weeks.  You know what, that’s all okay.  We keep plugging along, keep eating well, keep on moving.
Our bodies are being nourished and treated with respect and they will thank us for it.  They just need time.
Sometimes the scales can feel too overwhelming, and that’s okay too.
Put them away, bring out your measuring tape and take photos.
All will help provide you with a record of your progress and will make you feel so proud of your journey when you look back on them.
You will get there.  I could do it, and I know you will too!
