‘Meals on a stick’ are big favourites in this household. Not only are they an easy to hold option for little toddler fingers, they also serve the purpose of having built in portion control.
When you’re eating your meat in sectioned amounts, it’s very easy to see exactly how much you’ve eaten.
While what you eat is important when it comes to weight loss, how much you eat also plays a significant role. Healthy foods like lean meats, complex carbs and healthy fats are all essential in a good diet, but eating too much of them is not going to help the numbers on the scale shift in a downwards directions.
Recipes like these lamb koftas, allow you to track exactly how much you’ve eaten, and stop when you’ve had enough. The recipe uses 500g of lamb mince which should make between 10-12 skewers. This means that you’re able to work out how much mince is in each skewer and the calories per serve.
This recipe is a great, family friendly option for both the BBQ, frypan and grill. The lean mince provides us with a generous serving of protein, essential for building muscle and maintaining energy levels. Lamb is also rich in iron and other essential vitamins and minerals. Keeping your iron levels high is important during both pregnancy and breastfeeding (as well as for all busy mothers!), so including iron rich foods like lamb in your diet on a regular basis, is a big positive.
These kofta’s are also packed full of kid-friendly herbs and spices which add flavour without the need for salt, sugar or anything artificial. Spices have also been found to have some amazing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This recipe is an easy way to enjoy those benefits.
These koftas can be served with a side salad, lightly toasted pita bread, or even as part of a sandwich, ideal for lunchboxes or a quick lunch on the run.
Enjoy!
