Firstly let us say that we don’t believe in crash diets for fast weight loss. We believe in losing weight at a healthy, safe fashion that is maintainable and won’t set you off on a dieting yo-yo.
That’s not to say the results cant be dramatic or quick. But especially if you’re still recovering from childbirth and/or are breastfeeding you have to be careful not to put your body under too much stress.
So having said that let’s talk about safe ways to lose your stomach fat as fast as possible.
Obviously restricting your calories – without going hungry – is the best start and we have plenty of great recipes and diet plans to help you in our 28 Day Breastfeeding Friendly Diet & Exercise Plan.
But when it comes to exercising it’s no good just doing stomach crunches (spot fat removal doesn’t work). Yes it tones, but it wont directly burn off the fat on top of those muscles. The best exercise to burn stomach fat is cardio exercise. It’s the only way to break down fat, which includes the stomach fat area.
So set yourself a target of half an hour minimum of ‘moderate-intensity’ aerobic exercise such as brisk walking, jogging, skipping, swimming or cycling on most days of the week. It’s best to change the exercises all the time so your body doesn’t get used to it.
We also recommend interval training for the best calorie burn. During the exercise you should go full-out intensity for 30 seconds and then at a slower pace for 30 seconds. Never stop moving, repeat the cycle until your time is up or you feel ready to faint (only joking!). Keep your heart rate up the whole time, don’t relax until it’s done. Get the most out your exercise time then relax knowing your fitness job is done for the day!
Also – it is important to understand that there are two types of stomach fat – you can see the two types here and you can see our whole section on how to combat tummy fat here too
