green_tea_weight_lossGreen tea is a great addition to any weight loss plan or when you are trying to lose stomach fat and as part of the Lose Baby Weight plans, we recommend drinking 4 cups of green tea per day.
We suggest to use decaffeinated tea if you are on the breastfeeding plans (too much caffeine may make your baby restless and result in problems sleeping – for further information on breastfeeding and weight loss please view the breastfeeding information page). And due to very high consumption of green tea thought to interfere with iron absorption we suggest limiting to approximately 3 cups a day.
We are often asked about the benefits of green tea on the plans and as such have outlined below why we recommend it and how it can help in you losing your baby weight.
As well as burning fat and boosting metabolism – which is why it is building a reputation as a weight loss tea – Green tea is also packed with other health benefits and it is now regularly being suggested to be taken by cancer sufferers as the powerful antioxidants in the tea are thought to fight off disease and strengthen the immune system.  One of the best things for your health you can do is swap your regular black tea or coffee to a healthy green tea – and the sooner the better!
Green tea contains powerful antioxidants called catechin polyphenols that are responsible for many of the health benefits of the tea and they have been found to stimulate the metabolism and accelerate weight loss. The polyphenols stimulate the central nervous system and cause fat to be released into the blood stream for the body to use as fuel. This process of fat being used for energy is called “thermogenesis”. It provides extra energy, sheds excess water, and also helps to burn body fat.
Green tea also helps you exercise for longer which will help you achieve your baby weight loss objectives. How this works is that the catechin polyphenols in green tea appear to stimulate the use of fatty acids by liver and muscle cells. This then reduces the rate that carbohydrates are used and allows for more endurance and longer exercise times.
On the Lose Baby Weight plans we suggest drinking the decaffeinated green tea – however – it is not a magic drink and you will still need to follow the other elements of the plans to successfully achieve your weight loss goal – the green tea is a part of a holistic approach to the weight loss and health plans and combined with the other parts of the plan has been shown to accelerate your weight loss and reach your goals.
The taste does sometimes take some getting used to and we recommend including a slice of lemon or drop of honey in the tea until you become used to the taste – or in the summer months making a big jug of green tea and adding lots of mint and lemon and serving with ice for a perfect summer thirst quencher and weight loss helper.
