Here’s a gooey chocolate custard healthy eating dessert that is just calling out to have fresh fruit dipped into it.
Make a big batch for the whole family and be the dessert hero – they don’t need to know it’s actually healthy.

We love it with strawberries to dip into, but you could use any fruit you fancy – pineapple chunks, watermelon, pitted cherries, orange segments – they will all work.
Instead of the cream and sugar of the traditional blancmange recipe, this simple dessert calls for pantry cupboard staples with only 5g of sugar to serve 4 people.
Who said eating healthy food to lose pregnancy weight had to mean missing out on dessert?

  • healthy_eating4 cups reduced-fat milk of choice (1000 mls)
  • 1 & 1/4 teaspoons brown sugar (5 grams)
  • 4 tablespoons cacao/cocoa powder (32 grams)
  • 4 tablespoons cornflour (40 grams)
  • salt
  • 80 mls of water
  • 2 & 1/3 punnets strawberries (600 grams)


  • In a small heavy-based saucepan combine milk, sugar, cocoa/cacao, a pinch of salt and heat until just simmering. Watch carefully as the milk can boil over quite quickly!
  • Combine cornflour and water in a small dish and stir to dissolve.
  • Add cornflour mixture to simmering milk, whisking vigorously. Cook, whisking gently, for 3-4 minutes.
  • Tip into a serving dish, cover surface with cling wrap to prevent a skin from forming, and refrigerate until cold and set, approximately an hour. Setting time may vary depending on serving size and refrigerator temperature.
  • Serve with strawberries.
