My name is Laura and am a mum of two who has lost 34kgs* on the lose baby weight challenges and today I want to talk about exercise.
Lose Baby Weight 34kg Loss
Exercise used to be something I was forced to do.
I have always been uncoordinated so in school it was a source of torment; throwing, catching anything with balance, it was a horror story to me.
Running was the worst. I remember being made to do laps around the school oval and being the slightly chubby girl I was I would plod along the back looking like a Beetroot while barely breathing and farting like a trooper hoping with all my heart no one was lapping me and coming up from behind.
It was torture! The second I was allowed to stop PE in high school I did and the only exercise I got came from the walk to and from school each day.
Skip forward a few years and I got my drivers license and there was suddenly no need to move at all, not surprisingly it was the time I started to gain weight. Throw in the smoking, drinking and a general shitty lifestyle and I was a heart attack waiting to happen.
When I lost 34 kilos a couple of years ago with Lose Baby Weight the exercise part was grudgingly. I started out on the bike because it had the least impact on my joints which would get sore quickly from the huge weight it was carrying.
I grew to love the bike but it took time and if I’m perfectly honest it started out of laziness, it was the minimal exercise I could do with the least amount of effort. I remember I used to watch with spite and jealousy other mums in the private support group who were losing weight and how they went from being couch potatoes to runners, people who loved to squat and move their body and even though I was losing weight I wasn’t really gaining fitness and tone, I was still the slob I used to be but moved more and ate well.
When I got pregnant with with my daughter last year I got Hyperemis gravidarum (severe morning sickness) from beginning to the very end of my pregnancy and it was crippling.
I couldn’t leave the house and could barely move from my couch to the bathroom. Moving wasn’t a choice anymore, I was forced into being sedentary and I missed the exercise.
If I’m to be perfectly honest though my real, true love for working out didn’t come as an appreciation of finally being well enough to move again, it started after I started the antidepressants and got my zest for life back or maybe even for the first time.
Being happy gave me energy and I became adventurous for me in the kind of exercises I did. Even though I often start a session on the safety of my bike I move into cardio kickboxing then standing abs then squats.
I burn, I sweat, I can barely breathe and I love it.
Some people are born loving exercise and never stop, some lose their way and may or may not come back, some never like it and may or may not do it.  Others like me had to wait 32 years to finally see the joy in it and when you do see the joy you get what everyone else was banging on about and instead of being jealous can celebrate it.
