What we eat really effects our health and this is often seen more as we get older and to combat this we need to follow a healthy eating plan.  Our metabolism, our digestion, our immune system, our ageing, our mental health and our ability to fight diseases such as cancer are all effected by what we eat and drink.  The good news about this is that we can control our health and longevity by what we consume and if we make the right choices and keep our bodies at a healthy BMI then we will reap the health benefits and rewards for many years to come.
One of the newly emerged health discoveries is about maintaining an alkaline – not acidic – PH level in the body. From doing this the body is less likely to gain weight and suffer illness.  If our body is too acidic then common side effects are:

  • Lack of energy
  • Weight gain and the inability to lose weight
  • Muscle aches and pain
  • Frequent colds
  • Nasal congestion
  • Anxiety and irritability
  • Poor digestion

So how do our bodies become too acidic? Unsurprisingly through eating a poor diet and living an unhealthy diet where stress can worsen the acid PH in the body.
Firstly you need to cut out acidic food and the culprits here are processed foods, meats and lots of animal products, junk food, processed white sugar, salt, alcohol and chemicals.  And lemons may be acidic but in the body they have an alkaline effect – whereas animal products have an acidic effect.
Some foods which help to alkaline the body include raw veggies, leafy greens, whole grains, maple syrup, lemons, watermelons, mangoes, grapefruit, asparagas, onions, blueberries, apples, raisons, grapes, oranges, bananas, avocados, broccoli, garlic, olive oil, herbal teas, sweet potato, quinoa, goats cheese, soy milk, honey, tomatoes, peas, tofu and pineapple – as well as drinking Aloe Vera juice.

Some foods which are highly acidic include Equal, aspartame, white sugar, plums, cranberries, prunes, chocolate, potatoes, peanuts, white flour, white rice, beef, pork, cheese, dairy milk, alcohol and soft drink
So if you want to help your weight loss and optimize your health choose more alkaline foods and limit your intake of highly acidic foods – your body will thank you for it
