We love all your photos so much that we want to use them in our groups and on our Facebook pages to share with and inspire other mums.
You don’t need to invest in a fancy camera to take a good photo. A camera phone will do the job perfectly.  However, we do have a few little hints and tips to help you get a GREAT SHOT.
We’ve put together a list of 5 super simple tips to help you capture amazing photos of your food.

1.  LIGHT

The best light to use for taking any photos is natural light.  Good lighting makes a HUGE difference between a good and bad photo.  Some tips to get the best light possible are:

  • Place your food near a window where there is plenty of natural light.
  • Take your photos in daylight hours only.
  • Use a flash if you need to.
  • Avoid shadows falling across your object.  Don’t be afraid to move around the object the get the best position.
  • If you use your phone to take a photo, click on the edit button and adjust the light/exposure to brighten up your photo if it appears too dark.

2. COMPOSITION

simple way to take good food photosFollowing the simple ‘rule of thirds’ will always give you a great composition.  It’s easy to follow – all you have to do is make sure the main object you are photographing is placed on at least one of the 4 crosses.  If you find this tricky, you can always turn the grid on your camera screen on (in the settings on your phone).

3.  BACKGROUND

It’s really important to think about your background before taking any photos.  It’s best to keep it as clean and clutter free as possible.  Remember you don’t always have to take your food photos in the kitchen or dining area.  Try putting your ‘food item’ on the floor or in front of a window.  Here are a few tips to help:

  • Remove all clutter from the area before taking your photo.
  • If possible use a blank backgroud.  Floor tiles or wooden floors are great, as are white tables.
  • Don’t be afraid to zoom in on the object.  You don’t always have to have everything in the photo.
  • Take pictures from different angels.  Try standing above your object or getting down on on the same level.
  • Take more than one photo and pick the best one.
  • Consider using the editing features on your phone to crop, lighten and zoom in.

4. BASIC EDITING

Don’t be afraid to edit your photos.  There are some really great EASY editing tools to help. Here are our favourites.

5.  KEEP IT SIMPLE

Don’t over do your photos.  Clean and simple are always best.  Only use filters and collage frames if absolutely necessary.  Text and graphic overlays can be fun, but if you’re going to use them, keep them to a minimum.
