Introducing working and studying mum of 2 Melissa Burrows. Melissa has lost over 9 kgs using the Lose Baby Weight plans and this April she will motivate and inspire you to help you achieve your goals.
Hello fellow mummies.  I am Mummy of 2 girls – 4 ½ and 2 ½.  I also have a pretty awesome hubby.  I work 3 days a week in a legal firm and am currently doing a correspondence course.  I understand how busy life can get, and how quickly our health takes a back seat.  I hope to encourage you to put your health (mental and physical) back in the front seat, where it belongs.
Lose Baby Weight-9 kg Loss

In December 2014 I weighed in at 83 kg, my heaviest.  I felt awful.  I hated the way that I looked in photographs, particularly the ones from my brother’s wedding (photo in the blue dress).  I am 168cm tall and currently weigh 73.7kg.  My first major goal is to lose 10kg (sooo close), then my new goal will be 68kg.Prior to my first daughter’s birth in 2010 I was a healthy 69kg.  After her birth I hovered around the high 70s and then after the birth of my 2nd daughter in 2012 I ventured into the 80s L.
I am generally a very motivated person and in the past I had always found it fairly easy to commit to regular exercise, but after having the girls I lost all motivation.  I blamed my youngest child who I found very difficult.  EXCUSES, EXCUSES! It also seemed to take my body a long time to recover from my 2nd daughter’s birth.  Nothing major, just niggling small things i.e. for over a year I would limp badly each time I got off the couch.  I thought I was developing arthritis, and figured – ‘OK this is what approaching 40 feels like’.  I made some half-hearted attempts at weight loss with little success.  Again, I blamed approaching 40.  EXCUSES, EXCUSES!
So on 1 January 2015 I made a New Year’s Resolution, one that I have actually kept!  With some constant prodding from a close friend I started going to the gym.  At about this time I was searching for a shake to have for breakfast.  I noticed that a friend had Liked a Healthy Mummy Smoothie advertisement on Facebook.  I compared the nutrition label and ingredients to other similar products and then dived in.  They have literally changed my life!  I was completely addicted to Chocolate Mooves for breakfast EVERY morning.  I can honestly say I now enjoy the Healthy Mummy Smoothies more, and I can drink them on the go.
I also made some healthy adjustments to my diet, but it wasn’t long before I started trialling some of the Healthy Mummy recipes.  Yum!  I also found the women on this site were so inspiring and visiting the site daily kept me motivated.  I went from 83kg to 77.8 kilos.  I then plateaued for a few weeks which prompted me to sign up for the March challenge, during which I lost an additional 4 kilos.  I had several highs and some lows during the challenge, but can honestly say I feel so much happier, healthier, fitter and stronger.  The menu customisation tool is so helpful when planning your meals.
I try to mix up my exercise and aim for at least 4-5 times a week.  I either do the 28 Day Weightloss Challenge exercises, go to the gym (with kids in gym crèche), use my treadmill, do a home exercise DVD, walk, swim or run.  I AM BECOMING A LITTLE OBSESSED WITH RUNNING.  I used to hate it, but now love it.  It must be the peace and quiet lol!  My fitness has gone up surprisingly quickly.  Last week I did the Raw Challenge with a friend.  Next is the Mother’s Day Classic in Newcastle on 10/5 which is a 7km run and then a 10km run in July.  I am confident these goals will keep me on track.
There is nothing particularly special about my story.  I’m just a busy mum like you, but I hope I can help to inspire you.  The two best pieces of advice that I can give are:

Prioritise healthy eating & exercising – don’t let it become a back seat maybe

Put it to the top of your list.  I have been asked several times recently.  Is it hard? How do you find the time?  I’m not going to lie.  It is hard and time consuming, but the benefits are enormous.  So try to avoid excuses, and be a little selfish so that you can be the fittest/healthiest version of yourself for you and your family.

Be opportunistic with your exercise

My husband is often away for several days at a time so I find it difficult to commit to routine exercise (this doesn’t bode well with my OCD tendencies), but I have learnt to be flexible with the type of exercise I do and when I do it.  I’m happy to share my tips with you.
I have decided that by the end of 2015 I will be the healthiest & fittest that I’ve ever been.  I challenge you to do the same.  You can do it.  In fact, we can do it together!
Melissa xx
