I believe if you understand the workings behind the body then it will make the job to lose weight post the birth of the baby SO MUCH EASIER – so please read on to see a sneak peak of the information on nutrition - important foods to lose weight and how to follow a healthy eating plan that you will receive in your Lose Baby Weight program and pack.
I have always been aware of the need to eat well and this has been drilled into me since I was a child as my mother was a health food advocate and herbalist. However although I knew that following a healthy eating plan was key to being healthy, it wasn’t until I studied a nutrition course that I realized how critical eating the right types of food were and how dangerous it was to eat the wrong food.
My ignorance stemmed from a lack of education which 90% of the population are also victims of and I was shocked at what I learned about food when I began studying it and how unhealthy most populations were and the damage hundreds of thousands of families were doing to themselves.
For every person the nutritional needs they have may vary significantly or only slightly. Our bodies are unique and the optimal fuel that each body needs to perform at its best can differ according to if someone is male or female, is pregnant, is lactating, is intolerant to dairy, wheat, gluten, eggs or nuts, diabetic, is young or old, suffers from autoimmune system disease, has IBS, has Crohns disease, has cancer, suffers from migraine, has hyperthyroid, is an athlete, is stressed or has one of many other ailments or diseases many people suffer from today.
Therefore with the emergence of ‘food can heal’, nutrition is coming to the forefront as something that can assist in the management and even curing of the various afflictions populations suffer from today.
For us to be healthy and feel healthy, our cells in our bodies need to be functioning to their maximum ability. If they are not functioning properly then they cannot process toxins, digest food, absorb nutrients and make the immune system strong which are all key to us being healthy, not overweight and disease free.
For our cells to function properly they need – on a daily basis – over 40 nutrients(vitamins, minerals, amino acids, trace elements), plenty of clean water, clean oxygen, be at the right temperature and be free of stress and due to our modern day life the majority of people are not providing their cells this optimum environment and this could be why disease, illness and bad health are so prevalent today – and growing.
This optimum environment is referred to as homeostasis and on a daily basis, if our cells are in this perfect balance then they are equipped to protect, repair and replace cells which keep our bodies in perfect health.
By not following an appropriate or not adopting a healthy diet to lose weight, we are creating an inhospitable environment for our cells and this means that our bodies cannot protect, repair and replace cells which then leads to a weak immune system, illness, digestion problems, weight gain, headaches and a raft of other health issues.
So hopefully you can see how crucial it is to have healthy cells and the only way to achieve this is from devising an appropriate healthy eating plan. In today’s world achieving complete cellular nutrition is harder and harder because of the lifestyle we lead which involves eating and breathing in toxins at every turn, eating processed foods, stress, too much red meat, not enough fruit and vegetables and eating fast foods.
Due to the lack of a healthy eating plan, losing your baby weight and finding the best foods to lose weight becomes more difficult as our bodies are not performing at their best and food is not digested properly which leads to fat storage and illness.
The Healthy Mummy products that we include in the nutrition and lose baby weight loss plans range from fish oil supplements, nutritional smoothies which all support cellular health.
The products are formulated to support healthy villi which are finger like structures along the intestine wall that act as ‘gatekeepers’ helping your body absorb more nutrients, vitamins and minerals while protecting you from toxins. The healthier your villi the more efficiently your cells can absorb nourishment which leads to optimal cellular nutrition .
Proper digestion is also key to losing your baby weight and being healthy. For example, you could eat all of the right foods and take all of the right supplements but if your digestive system is poor then it won’t absorb any of the nutrients which leads to weight gain and poor health.
Unfortunately many people don’t understand why a healthy eating plan and good nutrition and lifestyle is critical to weight loss and being healthy and is without doubt the reason why weight gain and obesity is on the increase. In 2007 – 2008 the Government conducted the National Health Survey and the results showed the following statistics among women aged 25-44;
Very scary data to say the least and women’s health will simply not get better until the basics of achieving a healthy lifestyle are achieved.
There are many diets to lose weight and foods to lose weight. There are so many advocates of the “SAY NO TO CARBS” method of losing weight but do carbs they really deserve this reputation? I think not – and it is only the bad carbs we should stay away from when following or devising a healthy eating plan.
For dietary purposes, carbohydrates can be classified as simple or complex. The term complex carbohydrate was first used in the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs publication Dietary Goals for the United States (1977), where it denoted complex carbohydrates as, “fruit, vegetables and whole-grains”. Dietary guidelines generally recommend that complex carbohydrates, and such nutrient-rich simple carbohydrate sources such as fruit (glucose or fructose) and dairy products (lactose) make up the bulk of carbohydrate consumption. This excludes such sources of simple sugars as candy and sugary drinks.
The glycemic index and glycemic load concepts have been developed to characterize food behavior during human digestion. They rank carbohydrate-rich foods based on the rapidity of their effect on blood glucose levels. The insulin index is a similar, more recent classification method that ranks foods based on their effects on blood insulin levels, which are caused by glucose (or starch) and some amino acids in food. Glycemic index is a measure of how quickly food glucose is absorbed, while glycemic load is a measure of the total absorbable glucose in foods
The human body is fuelled by glucose. Therefore all foods must be converted into glucose before they can be used as fuel. Carbohydrates are more easily converted into glucose than protein or fat, and are considered to be the body’s “preferred” source of energy, and the brain’s essential source of energy.
Simple carbohydrates (except fruit sugar) are more easily converted into glucose because their molecular structure breaks down faster in the stomach and small intestine.
Therefore these carbohydrates raise glucose levels in the bloodstream quite rapidly (less than 30 minutes). This explains why diabetics, who occasionally suffer from an excessively low blood-glucose level, can quickly restore their balance by eating simple carb-foods, like sweets.
Complex carbohydrates, like starches, take longer to be converted into glucose because their molecular structure is much more complicated and usually (not always) requires quite a bit more time to metabolize into glucose (up to 2 hours).
Very complex carbohydrates (dietary fibre) also have a very complicated molecular structure, and are resistant to most digestive enzymes produced by the human body. As a result, they cannot be broken down into glucose or other nutrients at all. This is why fibre transits the intestinal tract largely undigested.
This has a knock-on effect on the speed of digestion of other carbohydrates around them. For example, where certain starches are “protected” by indigestible fibrous wrapping, the enzymes cannot get to grips with the starch as fast as normal. Also, the presence of soluble fiber in the stomach and intestine typically creates a viscous mass of digesting-food in which carbohydrates and enzymes take longer to mix. The result is that carbohydrate digestion slows down.
Our bodies will often show signs of nutrient deficiencies which is always a good gauge of what we are missing out on from our foods – for example;
Although some of these issues will be linked to other medical conditions – it is surprising to learn how many will disappear and not return once a person’s nutritional imbalances are adjusted and a more healthy eating plan (including eating the right foods to lose weight when on a weight loss diet) and lifestyle is led.
Many researchers today insist that dieting in the traditional sense is not the answer to the nation’s obesity problem and our approach to maintaining healthy weight levels has been misdirected with us now needing to move beyond the old mode of counting calories.
The problem with conventional yo-yo dieting is that the body goes into survival mode when it perceives the threat of starvation. The metabolic rate may remain depressed for up to a year.
The real key to permanent weight loss and losing your pregnancy weight has to do with your basal metabolic rate (BMR). The BMR calculates the energy needed to maintain life’s processes, which is normally the largest part of your daily energy or calorie expenditure. The body’s efficiency in converting calories consumed into energy while you are awake, but not engaged in any aerobic or strenuous activity, is paramount to maintaining a normal weight.
Diets to lose weight cause the body to conserve calories and store them, rather than burn them. In other words, diets to lose weight greatly inhibit your ability to burn body fat. One of the quickest and most detrimental ways to slow down your metabolic rate is by going on a restricted calorie or starvation diet.
Scientists have confirmed that two of the best ways to stoke or jump-start this innate fat-burning mechanism is via exercise and eating plenty of healthy food through an appropriate healthy eating plan.
Following a healthy eating plan and frequent meals comprising of healthy foods to lose weight keeps those metabolic fires working overtime. However, it is important to know which foods help increase thermogenic (fat-burning) activity and which foods slow it down. For example, consume foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, flaxseed oil, salmon, soy products, leans cuts of meats and whole grain breads. Slowly eliminate and avoid white bread, potato chips, organ meats, alcohol and processed or refined foods. A healthy eating plan full of nutrition and the right foods to lose weight is essential in losing that stubborn baby weight.
