My name is Vicki and I have the pleasure of being a Motivating Mummy for May 2016. I have been a Lose Baby Weight 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge member since July 2015 and have lost 26kg following the monthly meal plans and using the Healthy Mummy smoothies.

Fast Food Addict Vicki Changed Her Life & Lost 26kgs

I was overweight when I left high school, found my independence, met my husband, and embarked on 14 years of a fast lifestyle and fast food, we were both addicted.

My weight kept creeping up and up. Every now and again I would join a diet club or jump on the latest fad, lose 5-10kgs then gain it all back plus some more. I’ve tried some big name diet plans, pills, shakes, I’ve tried cutting out certain foods, or starving myself on 1200 calories per day (sometimes less) to lose weight. Nothing worked long term. At one stage I weighed over 90kgs. 

Then, 5 years ago we started our family, we had three beautiful, amazing children, but the yoyo dieting continued. I would lose a little bit of weight between pregnancies, but gain it back after giving birth. Add Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, severe Post Natal Depression and Bi-polar Disorder, as well as Irritable Bowel Syndrome and I was very lost and struggling.

I love food, but portion sizes have always been a real problem for me and I could never say no to second helpings. I was also a rather limited cook, I knew how to cook a few dishes really well. Problem was the dishes were usually laden with lots of fat, cheese, and carbs in the form of pasta or creamy sauces. Fine in moderation but I would have this at least once a day. Lunch could typically be takeaway or a pasta meal laden with cheese and butter.

My views on diets revolved around limp tasteless boring salads, a dry tiny piece of boiled chicken and lots of tuna, or recipes that took hours to prepare with expensive ingredients that no one in the family would like as well as a constant, unsatisfied, starving feeling. This is definitely not what the Lose Baby Weight 28 Day Challenges are about.

We all know that mums are the busiest people in the world, we put ourselves last and our children and families first. We worry about what our children are eating, whether or not they happy and fulfilled, whether or not they have clean clothes and clean a house. By the end of the day we are running on empty and cooking a nutritious meal with our children at our feet is the last thing on our mind.

A friend introduced me to Lose Baby Weight and I could see the amazing transformation she was achieving using the 28 Day Challenges and Healthy Mummy Smoothies. I wanted the same thing, I wanted to feel as good as she looked, I was desperate to do something to change my life, and also that of my family and to stop feeling guilty all the time about our lifestyle.

This is where the challenges became a lifesaver for me. The meals are really quick and easy to prepare. I don’t think encountered many recipes that took more than 30 mins to cook and put together. And I have – without fail – enjoyed every single meal from the challenges to date, and so does my family.

We have Taco Tuesday, amazing curries and my favourite lunchtime meal is a salad (not the tasteless kind I assure you). Mornings are a breeze now, I whip together a smoothie for myself full of fruit, veg, healthy mummy smoothie powder and cacao for that yummy chocolate hit.

It’s been 10 months now since I joined the Lose Baby Weight challenges, I have stunned myself and my family/friends with the transformation. Before I started I was severely depressed, had just been discharged from the mental ward of the hospital, and I was back to my heaviest weight. I knew I had to make a change, but what would work when everything else had failed before? I did start a 12 week transformation program, but only two weeks in, I wasn’t seeing results.

So after seeing my friends amazing results on the 28 Day Challenge I decided to take a chance and swap. 10 months on my only regret is not starting the 28 Day Challenges and making the swap sooner. The weight has consistently come off, I’m never hungry, I’m healthy, happy energetic.

No more mum guilt about what I serve the kids, they eat the same meals and snacks as me. I can run 10km, I have the energy and confidence now to join in sports like Roller Derby and CrossFit. I feel great, and that confidence booster of seeing my reflection and loving what shows back is incredibly rewarding.

There have been bad days and a few more hospital visits, but The Lose Baby Weight 28 Day Challenge and the amazing supportive Facebook group have been a great help in getting me back on track. The stories told by members are very real and inspirational, everyday mums facing the same challenges as myself and working through them.

How can you not be inspired by them, the challenges of sleep deprivation, sick or special needs children, mental health and wellbeing, physical issues, time issues, juggling house, work and family, all overcome to make a better lifestyle.

These are the stories that have inspired my weight loss journey and my road to better health. I only hope my story inspires others too. xx
