After the rise in newborns being named after characters from ‘Twilight’ and ‘The Hunger Games’ (anyone met a ‘Katniss’ yet?) it should come as no surprise that ‘Star Wars’ inspired monikers are the new kids on the naming block.
With the December 2015 release of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ which grossed over $900 million at the box office, fans of the mega film franchise have permeated the parenting arena to bump up the popularity of previously low ranking baby names.

Star Wars fan yourself?

Here are our top 7 ‘Star Wars’ inspired names:

  1. Rey -Heroine of ‘The Force Awakens’ the name Rey has rocketed up the charts, moving up 11,000 spots on the ‘popular girls name’ list in the US.
  2. Kylo – She may be the villain in the latest incarnation of the legendary series but the name ‘Kylo’ is proving popular with parents, moving up 67% on the name list since 2015.
  3. Rogue – It may have a touch of the X-Men about it but with the next installment of the franchise using the name in the title (‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story due for release December 2016’) die hard fans have been quick to jump onboard with the unisex name.
  4. Leia – An oldie but a goodie. The name ‘Leia’ has continued to rank well over the last 10 years. It currently sits at number 2011, not bad for a name who’s origins stem back to 1977.
  5. Anakin – Another name that has seen a surge in popularity over the last decade, Anakin first came into existence with the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, most notably in 1999 with the release of ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’ where Anakin Skywalker was a lead character.
  6. Amidala – Queen Amidala, mother of Luke and Leia, may be on the more obscure side of the naming trend but we think it has a certain ring to it! Meaning ‘beautiful flower’ in Italian, there was a surge in Amidala’s registered after 1999’s ‘The Phantom Menace’.
  7. Rex – ‘Star Wars’ may not be able to lay total claim to the name Rex but those fans with kids will probably recognise the name from ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’.

There you have it, naming inspiration from one of the most popular movie franchises of all time!
May the force be with you.

It takes all the guess work of “what do I have for dinner” and fumbling around the fridge looking for ingredients before deciding on something “easy” (and usually not healthy!)
