Hi, my name is Melissa Burrows.  I introduced myself properly in my first blog at the beginning of the month, but in case you missed that I’m a busy mum of 2 girls who are 4 ½ and 2 ½.  Since January 2015 I have lost a total of 10.5 kilos using all things Lose Baby Weight and 1.5 kilos of that has been during the 28 Day Weightloss Challenge this month.  I can honestly say I don’t think I would have achieved this without Lose Baby Weight and my daily dose of The Healthy Mummy & Lose Baby Weight Facebook page.
Lose Baby Weight-10kg Loss
The purpose of my first blog was to help encourage you to make eating healthy and exercising a priority, not a back seat maybe.  Today in my Motivating Mum ‘Ask Me’ session I was asked the question:
‘What do think your biggest achievement is since you started in January?
My answer was:
‘I would have to say my biggest achievement has been changing my mindset and keeping it that way. I decided to make healthy eating and exercise a priority not something I did once all the other jobs were done – b/c let’s face it they are never done. By doing this I have been able to smash other goals out along the way like losing the 10kg, toning up, running 10k, doing the Raw Challenge etc. Not to say there hasn’t been set backs along the way, but I haven’t let a bad day stop me from moving forward. That is what I am most proud of .’
So I’ll share some tips that have helped me stay in the right mind set:

Make small changes to begin with

I don’t recommend going cold turkey on anything whether its junk food, alcohol, smoking etc. I started out slow cutting out the majority of junk food first, making some small changes to my diet, exercising once or twice a week and reducing my alcohol intake.  Once I started to see results that drove me to try harder and so I upped the ante by joining the March 28 day challenge and increasing my exercise to 4-6 times per week.

Socialising

When friends come over I don’t deny myself some goodies. I try to eat less than I would have in the past, but generally I just relax and enjoy and get back on my healthy eating plan straight away the following morning.

Take advantage of opportunities to exercise

Fit your exercise in based on what is happening in your household at any given time. Take advantage of the times that your children are playing happily by themselves.  Accept that you are probably not going to be able to schedule your exercise out like you used to be able to do prior to having kiddies.  I found this very hard, but now I have my head around it I have discovered so many different ways to fit exercise into my day in and out of the home.

Exercising with friends

I am definitely a people person and thrive off the enthusiasm and encouragement of others. So, wherever possible I try and exercise with friends whether it is going to the gym at the same time, walking with a work colleague in my lunch break or meeting up with friends for a run on the weekend.
Once you are in the right mind set, you will allow almost nothing to stand in your way!
I love this saying: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, And the wisdom to know the difference.”
A lot of what life throws our way we cannot change, but I believe our health and fitness is something we have the ability to change in some way, shape or form.  Good luck ladies and if you haven’t signed up yet join me in the May Belly Buster challenge here.
