Hello Healthy Mummy’s, Welcome to 2016!
I am so excited to have been asked to be one of the Motivating Mums for January 2016. For those of you who don’t know me I am Mel Briggs, I lost 23kg* with Lose Baby Weight and The Healthy Mummy during 2013 & 2014 after the birth of my daughter.
Lose Baby Weight -23kg Loss

I am 174cm and went from 112kg (120kg at full term pregnancy) down to 89kg. I then fell pregnant in Dec 2014 with my twin boys and this took a huge toll on my body and I unfortunately fell off the Healthy Mummy bandwagon.

Now with a completed family of three children rather than what we had always planned to be two, still so surreal that we were blessed with twins, I am back to make 2016 MY year!
On the day I gave birth to my boys I was 126.1kg, I had gotten down to 107kg post birth but with illness and some long term knee and leg pain and the dreaded over eating at Christmas my weight has crept up to 115kg at 4 months postpartum. So this is me, my starting weight is 115kg, a number I do not want to see again!
My goal weight at this stage is 72kg, so it I’ve got a long way to go, a big 42kg, but I have proved to myself before I know what it takes to lose weight and I will just need to work at it until I get there. I can’t wait to finally get to my goal.
That’s a bit about me, now to what I am going to do as a Motivating Mum in January!

For me and my family, we pick and choose meals and snacks from the new challenge meals that come out every second month, the older challenge recipes and the 28 Day Meal and Exercise Plan book. I make my own meal plans to suit what our family like to eat and we’ve now got many delicious family favourites.
So this month I will get my meal planning back on track and ensure that each weekend before we go food shopping that I will have all the healthy meals and snacks planned out for the week and shop for this, to ensure we stay on track.
Yesterday I wrote my pledge for what I wish to achieve for January and I will share it with you:
‘I pledge that I will aim to lose 5kg between 1st Jan and 31st Jan by eating well with no unhealthy takeaways or unhealthy meals when eating out and no soft drink, cake, chocolate or biscuits which are my big weaknesses. I will also drink 3l of water per day and exercise a minimum of 3 days a week. Bring on month no. 1 of weight loss and a brilliant 2016!’
My exercise will not be very intense at this stage as I have had knee, leg and lower back pain since about 7 weeks postpartum which the physio is trying to resolve for me so exercise will consist of going for a walk or doing segments of the Healthy Mummy Exercise DVD.
However over this year as I start to feel better I will be incorporating the exercises from the 28 Day Challenge.
I look forward to getting to know a lot of new faces and helping encourage and motivate you with your journeys as I also progress with mine! All the best for 2016 Healthy Mummies!
