Steaming your food really does help reduce the need to use fatty ingredients such as oil or butter. It also retains the nutrients in your fish and vegetables so that you’ll get the most out of your dish!
Better yet, this heavenly dish is lightly flavoured with only ginger and light soy sauce. There is always the option of including a tiny amount of Chinese rice wine into the dish but that is entirely up to how your body feels.
Ingredients (serves 4):

  • 750g of white fish fillets, skinned and deboned
  • 2 tablespoons of salt-reduced soy sauce
  • 2 fresh ginger, finely sliced
  • Sliced snow peas (you can opt to use bok choy)
  • Sliced carrots

Directions:

  • Place fish fillets onto a baking dish that fits into a steaming basket.
  • Gently pour and spread the salt-reduced soy sauce over the fish.
  •  Place the sliced ginger on top and at the bottom of the fish.
  • Fill up a wok or large pan with water and bring it to boil.
  • Once the water is boiling, reduce the fire to medium and place the steaming basket into the wok/pan.
  • Place the baking dish into the basket and cover it, and steam the fish for 5 – 6 minutes.
  • After that, add the vegetables into the baking dish and continue steaming for another 5 minutes.
  • The fish will flake easily once it’s completely cooked. If the middle is still raw, let the fish cook for another 3 – 4 minutes.
  • Take out the baking dish and divide into 4 portions (You can choose to serve the dish with the ginger slices or completely discard it).
  • Top it off with the steam vegetables and you’re good to go!
