When you are trying to lose pregnancy weight, it is perfectly normal to have good days and bad days.
Good days are great as they keep you feeling motivated and energised to keep going.
Bad days can see you spiral down into a bit of a funk that can be hard to get out of.
Today we look at three common scenarios that can leave you feeling like ‘it’s all too hard’ and give you some tips to get back on track with your pregnancy weight loss.

When the scales are unkind

You’ve put in the hard work, eaten well, exercised, turned down the birthday cake at the party and still the scales are saying that you weigh the same as last week. Worse still, they might even tell you that you’ve put on weight.
When this happens, it is hard to stay positive. But there are many reasons that you can either plateau or appear to put weight in a particular week (you can read more about that here).
The scales don’t have to be the decider of whether you are having a good day or a bad day.
You can look at other measurement tools to see how you are doing. For instance you can look at your body measurements (more on that here) or even just how you fit into certain articles of clothing can help.

When you overdo it on unhealthy food

We all have moments of weakness when we decide to succumb to a craving for unhealthy food.
The trick here (if you can remember it before hand) is to think how you will feel afterwards – normally that’s tired, nauseous and a bit regretful.
But if the binge has happened, the best thing to do is wipe the slate clean. Have a big glass of water, go for a walk if you can, and make the decision to get back to your healthy eating plan from your next meal.
All too often you might think ‘oh well I’ve eaten a whole pizza now, I may as well keep going’ but this doesn’t have to be the case.
We all have blow outs but the key is getting back on track as soon as you can.

When you feel too tired to exercise

There are days when all you want to do is flop on the couch, especially if the kids are being ratty or you’ve been up all night with an unsettled baby.
But getting yourself out into the great outdoors and soaking up some fresh air is the very best thing you can do to begin feeling better.
Walking gets the blood pumping and your feel-good hormones will kick in very quickly. Plus if you walk to the park you can give the kids a run around that might just help them to sleep better too.
Commit to just a ten minute walk and chances are that once you get going you will be happy to continue.
Too wet outside? That’s OK, pop your Healthy Mummy Exercise DVD on and do a segment or two while the kids are busy with an activity.
We all have bad days, but the key is not to let a bad day turn into a bad week. Stay positive and the good results will follow.
