Free from butter and white sugar these Date Scones are the perfect afternoon tea.

Serve with our our Chia Berry Jam for especially delicious results!
Date Scones
Ingredients

  • 2 cup SR wholemeal flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp coconut sugar
  • 40g coconut oil (softened not liquid)
  • 1/2 cup chopped dates
  • 1 egg
  • 150 ml milk

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180*c, grease and line and oven tray.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder and sugar into a mixing bowl.
  3. Add coconut oil in small dollops, rub through flour mixture until it resembles fine bread crumbs.
  4. Add dates and mix.
  5. Make a well in centre, add lightly beat egg and milk.
  6. Mix (use a bread and butter knife to cut through the mix it will help keep the air) until just incorporated and then turn out onto a floured surface.
  7. Knead until just smooth (no longer otherwise the scones will lose  fluffiness).
  8. Roll out to 2cm and cut out scones (you can use a round cookie cutter or just cut them using a knife).
  9. Brush scones with milk
  10. Place in oven and cook for 10-15 mins.
  11. Allow to cool and enjoy with your favourite toppings!

Makes 10 and only 165 calories per scone.
