The hype surrounding Mother’s Day is either lovely or it does your head in, but one thing that often gets overlooked is actually what mum REALLY wants. Sure it’s nice to get flowers, jewellery and other gifts but there are a few wants most mothers have in common.
5 things that mums REALLY wants this Mother’s Day
1. NO FIGHTING
Yes this is in capital letters because it was said in a shouty voice. Why? Because more often than not mothers spend the majority of their time asking their children to stop fighting, niggling or telling tales on each other. What we’d really like is some peace and quiet, a truce, a waving of the white flag if you will, even if it’s just for one day!
2. An entire day void of any domestic chore
Day in and day out we mums, and some dads, spend hours doing some sort of domestic duty whether it’s washing, dishes, mopping, grocery shopping, making beds, cleaning the loo or shower or picking up 253 piece of Lego from the floor. On Mother’s Day it would be nice to do absolutely nothing, not even use the dishcloth or pick up a wet towel from the floor.
3. The house to ourselves
Sure many of us never leave the house so it’s nice to get out, but many of us never EVER have the entire house to ourselves. We would just love to be able to turn up our favourite music and sing along or watch back-to-back episodes of our favourite Netflix show without having to wipe a bottom in between. Maybe we could even have bath with some candles and a book! Remember: If by some miracle you do get the house to yourself you are not allowed to do any cleaning, washing or tidying up. You are only allowed to bludge – the mess will still be there tomorrow!
4. To leave the house – ALONE!
While mums with little ones might not be able to down tools as easily as those with older kids, even just escaping the house by ourselves for an hour is such a gift. What we really would love is to have a hot beverage and actually have the time to drink it before it gets cold or go shopping for something other than nappies or new shoes for the kids.
5. A voucher to make our lives easier
Whether it’s for a cleaner, someone to help with meals or even a voucher so we can get a massage or a facial, it’s all about finding a gift that makes our lives a little easier and pleasant. When you’re in the trenches of parenting even the smallest gift or gesture is appreciated, and even if it can’t be used on Mother’s Day you can use it when the time suits you.
So if you’re sure your loved ones know what you REALLY want this Mother’s Day, maybe you should print this out or share it with them – not everyone is a mind reader!
We hope you all have a wonderful Mothers Day.
