When you’re in baby-making mode you’ll do almost anything you can to improve your chances of falling pregnant, but did you know there’s a few sneaky sex tips that might just help seal the deal?
5 surprising sex tips that could help you conceive
1. It’s all in the timing
If you’re serious about trying to get pregnant then you will have figured out when you’re ovulating, while you can never be 100 per cent sure of the exact day you’ve probably got it narrowed down to a few days. This is when you need to get ‘busy’, especially a few days before you think you’re about to ovulate, just to give yourself a few more chances. While we don’t want to discourage sex at other times, just don’t get disappointed if you have sex a week before or after your period; it’s extremely unlikely you’ll be ovulating at these times.
2. Get busy but not TOO busy
We’ve all been told having lots of sex will decrease the potency of a man’s sperm, but it won’t. The only reason you shouldn’t go hammer and tongs all day every day is because you’ll start to see sex and love making as a chore. Calling your husband to come home for a quickie at lunch time might be a good idea if you think you’re ovulating but doing it three days in a row will probably lead to burnout.
Tip: If you’re unsure of your fertile period have sex every other day so you’ll have healthy sperm in your fallopian tubes whenever your egg is released.
3. Mix it up a little
Limiting time in the bedroom to only those days leading up to and after ovulation not only puts a lot of pressure on both of you but it makes the act feel more clinical. Have a great session when you know there’s no chance of getting pregnant just to keep the intimacy and passion alive. Don’t forget to mix it up a little because experts say when a man ejaculates, sperm swims out, goes directly into the cervical mucus and into the fallopian tubes no matter what position you’re in. So get busy girl!
4. Put your hands (legs) up in the air
Look it’s hard to know if this is a myth as it is unlikely this theory has been tested, but after you’ve done the business it can’t hurt to put your legs in the air like you just don’t care. Put a pillow under your lower back/bottom to tilt in up a little bit, you want to give the sperm a red hot shot at hitting the spot right? Look at it as an excuse to stay in bed for a little longer and read a book or watch TV!
Hint: Make sexy time fun – try not to put pressure on your partner to perform, sometimes it just won’t happen and making a big deal of it is not conducive to a happy household.
5. Not all lubricants are created equal.
Make sure you swap your favourite bottle of tried and tested lubricant for a sperm-friendly one or else it might be counterproductive to getting pregnant. Some types can negatively affect sperm motility which means it makes it harder for them to reach the egg. When scanning labels check for sperm-friendly lubricants make sure it doesn’t contain glycerine, it’s toxic-free and that it’s water-based. You can get organic ones and there’s even one called Pre-Seed that mimics fertile cervical mucus in its PH, ion concentration and consistency. This one also has an applicator to help place it near your cervix – for the win!
