Looking for a great way to get your kids interested in healthy foods and trying new things? Get them involved in the kitchen.
Kids love getting hands-on and quite often if they’ve been a part of the preparation they will be more likely to give it a try when it’s served up.

Here are five of our favourite ideas for kids to help out with – they are all kid friendly foods already which don’t involve too much work. Perfect for a healthy family dinner.
Why not have the kids help to prepare the same meal regularly, and then once they get the hang of it, they will love the idea of it being ‘their specialty’

Homemade Pizza

healthy_foodTalk about hands-on food! This is a great recipe for even the littlest in the family to get involved with. Toddlers could help mix the dough and roll it out. Older kids could help chop veggies and grate cheese.
All ages could help sprinkle the toppings on, and everyone will love making their own individual pizzas with their own select ingredients.

Thai Style Sausage Rolls

healthy_eatingKids love feeding ingredients into a food processor, and this recipe will keep them busy. They won’t mind eating all the veg when it’s wrapped in delicious pastry and baked until golden.
The fresh coriander gives it the Thai flavour, but feel free to substitute with parsley or basil if you don’t have any.
Here’s the recipe.

Crispy Crumbed Fish

healthy_foodKids and fish fingers are pretty much a match made in heaven for most families. But this healthy homemade version ticks all the boxes without the added sodium, colouring or fillers.
Kids seem to love the process of dipping and crumbing the fish, and will get a kick out of having made these themselves.

Asian Chicken Noodles

healthy_foodPerfect for older kids that can use the stove, or let younger kids help you to sort the veggies into colourful piles.
Already got some cooked steamed veggies from last night? Use those instead! Kids will love this meal, and it tastes like a Thai takeaway so parents will love it too.

Juicy Beef Burgers

Ask your kids to wash their hands and roll their sleeves up – they’re going to be getting their hands in the bowl to mix up some delicious homemade burgers for dinner.
Tweak this any which way, using lamb mince and some rosemary, or chicken mince with some sage.
