When the kids are hungry in the afternoon it can be all too easy to just give them a biscuit or cake to tide them over until dinner time.
But if you are following a healthy eating plan such as Lose Baby Weight you have probably decided that your kids should be eating healthier food too.

1) Baba Ganoush Dip

Serve this tasty spread with some Pita Bread Chips that you can make by grilling some strips of pita bread.

2) Beetroot and Butter Bean Dip 

Simply blend 400g baby beets with 400g butter beans until smooth. Serve with carrot and celery sticks for a healthy and colourful snack.

TIP: did you know that you can freeze dip in ice cube trays? Simply pop out a cube in the morning and let it defrost in a cup in the fridge for afternoon tea. 

3) Green Slime Smoothiehealthy_eating

Place 200ml milk, 1 peeled and cored pear, 1 cup of baby spinach and ½ a frozen banana into a blender. Blend until smooth.

4) Banana, Oat and Honey Smoothie

In a blender, place 200ml milk, ½ a frozen banana, 1 tsp honey, 2 tbsp natural plain yoghurt, 2 tbsp rolled oats. Blend until smooth.

Instead of offering store bought pikelets which tend to contain white flour, sugar and preservatives – try these healthier treats that also add the goodness of fruit.

6) Savoury Pumpkin Muffins 

Heat your oven to 200C. Cook 150g butter and one cup of grated Japanese pumpkin in a saucepan until soft. Place in a bowl with 1 ½ cups wholemeal flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 1 grated zucchini, 2 eggs and ½ cup grated Parmesan.
Mix to combine then spoon into 12 muffin cases. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden.

7) Healthy Muesli Bars

Get the kids involved with this recipe that’s packed with nutritious seeds, fruit, oats and coconut.

Fruit can easily be jazzed up for kids by chopping into bite sized pieces and threading onto a skewer. The sauce is optional but makes more a fun dip on the side.

9) Strawberry and Mint Rice Paper Rolls

Strawberries are a big hit with most kids. They are sweet tasting yet also high in fibre and Vitamin C. Although rice paper rolls tend to be a savoury affair, this recipe proves that sweet also works.
